when we were being connected to 24/7 i spoke to the technicians from edenorte and they said that the rates stay the same. very clearly. they did say, however, that you may see the spike in the bill because now everything is connected and working all the time. i hope for a lower bill because i guess what was consuming most power was the backup system itself. since last bill cut on the day we were connected the new bill will be all for 24/7 power. i will report what it says.

How can one stay under 200 kw?????

it's not that hard, i presume. our lowest last year was 288. we have lots of stuff connected. poor household will easily stay under 200: no computers, modems, electric gates, no microwave, few lights, one fan, small fridge (or none at all).

I dislike invertors also but it's like complaining about the rain. Batteries and inverters are just a part of life here. After a while most get tired of candles. Unless of course you are like me and do some of your best work in the dark.

If you have an energy efficient house you can do it. I have a 2 bedroom home with a pool and my kw hours per month are between 120-135. I have a gas hot water heater and clothes dryer, the pool pump is an eco model (running 6 hours a day), and all my outside lights are on motion sensors. My house is an open concept design with good air-flow so no need for a/c. I also purchased energy star rated North American brand appliances.

so... our new, all 24/7 power bill is here, ladies and gentlemen. the charges are the same as before (per kw). and we only reached 283 kw this month so the bill was 1603.76 pesos.
there is cargo fijo at 137.25 pesos. then the first 200 kw were 888 pesos (at 4.44 per kw) and the remaining 83 were 578.51 (at 6.97). i shall work on getting those numbers down...
