I know all the "tricks of the trade" at the gas stations in DR, but none of them require getting out of your car to check on. Just watch which pump he uses (regular vs. premium vs. diesel), and look at the meter...all done while sitting in your car...why get out?

I get out now because it shows the attendant that I am watching and avoids the argument when he "accidentally" erases the total gas he sold.

By the way, if anyone is in the Bani area, be very careful of using Shell stations. The one I used to use always cost me $3,400 to fill my tank with diesel*. Once an attendant tried to rip me off (see above), I switched stations, and now it only costs $3,250 to fill my tank, even though the price per gallon is exactly the same. The first two times, I thought it was a fluke, but it's been consistent. My guess is that the gallon at the first station is a little short.

PS. Does anyone know where to report this? Is there a Dominican equivalent of Bureau of Standards?

*My truck actually burns diesel.
