Let's recall the definition of anomaly as per my post #6:
Definition of anomaly:
‘Something that deviates from what is standard, normal or expected’.
‘A deviation from the common rule, type, arrangement or form’.
There is no deviation from the grammar rule with regards to the noun modelo. As per the RAE modelo is:
m. y f. Persona que se ocupa de exhibir diseños de moda.
The noun modelo is used for male and female. Why this is? I don't know. The question is for those who put the grammar rules in place. However, you will have to go as far back as Andrés Bello who produced the first Spanish grammar book.
It is not an anomaly because the rule states that modelo is used for both male and female. They are not going against it in your example nor has any version different been accepted as an acceptable grammatical form.
Who knows if that will change in the future with all these gender debates of the new age but if it does it will fall under the same scrutiny of changes that have been already made with some words. For example, el presidente and now la presidenta is used.
