They are saying that the one thing they DON'T need are clothes, except for Jiman? hospital where they are asking for children's clothes.

Sorry Chiri but this is not correct, they desperately need clothes, look at the press reports, they only have the clothes they are wearing. They need the things on my list urgently. We have one truck already there with a translator and we know how bad things are. Ana Sanchez is now working with us, she started the Civil Defence here on the North Coast years ago and really knows both countries, she is a wonderful Dominican friend and has worked giving aid in Haiti itself before this disaster.

I have an idea but don't have a contact. In the UK at certain times of the year people stand at the exit of a supermarket with a shopping trolley and ask shopers as they leave to donate a can or something. This can raise a lot of food quite quickly.
Does anyone have a good contact at Playero, La Sirena etc to get permission to do this?

Yes we had thought of this but we need the volunteers to do this as they will need to stand at the entrances of the supermarkets to guard the food and thank the people donating. So please if any of you can help with this please email me. Thanks for helping to bump the thread.

Seems to me that you should hook up with a government convoy once you get near the border. You sound a little too gung ho to take on the bad guys.

Thank you, but we have already got that and I am very experienced with both facing Ladrons with my arms and charitable works. I was a director of a charity in the UK. I do not take things as important as this on without the correct preparation.
But we need more volunteers to help.

And I suggest that based on your reaction to the sensible advice being given and your track record in this forum, that you have no clue what you are doing. Posters should bear this in mind.

Repetition of my original post;

Repetition of my original post;

We have organised the loan of some trucks to go to Haiti with many essentials not supplied by the many wonderful aid agencies from many countries.
We need to fill these trucks and urgently need any food that will keep, clothes, shoes. (all ages), bandages, towels, toilets rolls, toothpaste/brushes, anitbiotics, aspirin, non perishable food, powdered milk, rice, beans, sauces, or anything anyone wants to give. We need these trucks to go in convoy with security which we will supply. We also need monetary donations for the gas and for anything else we need to buy to help these desperate people. Please raid your wardrobes and if your children have outgrown toys etc. the children of Haiti would be grateful.

Collections points have been organised already in the Voodoo disco (now called Beechers), the Jolly Roger, and Dr Bob's veterinary clinic, in Sosua, we are also working to organise collection points in other areas and I am awaiting calls from the owners of certain businesses. But we need your help to collect more essentials and to pass the word.

Please give any monetary aid to Lesley at the Voodoo, many of you know her. If any of you outside Sosua want to give monetary aid please contact me by pm and I will give you the bank info at Banco St.Cruz.

We need volunteers urgently to collect donated items coming in with tourists arriving at Puerto Plata airport. We have contact with the head of the security there to facilitate this.

I have received a message today,

"We have a similar action going on in Bayahibe / Dominicus called "Leave Your
Clothes" (LYC). We request tourists to leave part of their clothes (and other
goods) behind when they return back home. We have collection points in
Dominicus: SeavisTours office in the shopping street and Bayahibe: the dive shop
of DrDiving on the beach. "

Thank you Alexander from Seavis Tours, this is a great idea, is there anyone who can help by contacting the hotels in Sosua, Playa Dorado and Cabarete to advertise this maybe by boards outside the hotels. PLEASE guys, I help sure many tourists would be willing to help if we could just find a way of contacting them. We need volunteers to do this. I am going to help Alexander as they have no security as such to deliver these donations direct to Haiti. We have great security back up.

Thank you.
I think you will find that the hotels in Sosua & Cabarete have already been approached with this suggestion Barbara & Playa Dorada hotels were due to be canvassed yesterday. One of DR1's many 'behind the scenes' people was asking who the best contacts were to get the best results. The same goes for La Sirena, Tropical & Jose Luis in Puerto Plata (she already knows the contacts in the Sosua & Cabarete supermarkets).

I understand from DR. Bob (Dominican Crossroads Foundation) that he is stopping his missions to Haiti AT THE BORDER for the time being, because of safety & so as NOT to interfere with the present terrible logistical problems of distributing the donations. Whereas the intentions may be great, the application should be totally considered so as to work WITH the authorities rather than hinder them still further. I further understand from him that he is not having warehousing problems so anyone that wants to send a donation of food, medications or any OTHER form of medical assistance, can do so directly to the veterinary services beside Coastal Garage on the way to Cabarete from Sosua.

Anyone coming to the DR on holiday & willing to bring in some form of medical equipment/supplies will be welcome to contact Dr. Bob or make a comment for Lindsey Kaufman (or myself) on this forum. We will collect from the appropriate hotel (Sosua/Cabarete or Playa Dorada/Cofresi) & make sure it gets to Dominican Crossroads Foundation in the shortest possible timeframe! ~ Grahame.

Grahame thank you but we have already collected donations from Dr Bob and are working with him. He was very grateful of our help to get the things to Haiti.

I have also been contacted by another group that operates out of the East Coast and he has websites worldwide, but is also having problems getting the donated items to Haiti in a secure convoy. Here is his latest message posted on his websites

"A wonderful lady, Barbara, (Ladybird) from Sosua cooperates with the LYC project. She coordinates the action in the North Coast area. She has got several trucks directly available, complete with armed police escort, to bring goods to Haiti.

Collection points Bayahibe / Dominicus:
- Diveshop DrDiving in Bayahibe (on the beach)
- SeavisTours office in the shopping street of Dominicus

Collection point Point Juan Dolio:
- 5 Star Safari / Trewe Tours, Juan Dolio Boulevard, Juan Dolio 809 526 1211 ( www.trewetours.com )

Collection Points Nationwide:
All deports of Listin Diario (the newspaper), a list will follow....

Alexander"
end C&P

He is organising with his contacts with Listin Diario and other Governmental Agencies on the East Coast and Santo Domingo to get the items to us.

Just remembered another bit of the conversation with Dr. Bob this morning ! ........ Dominican Crossroads has already spent out US $10,000 from their funds towards medical stuff for the medical teams to use once they are in Haiti. Obviously this has been a big drain on their funds & 'Top Up' would be greatly appreciated. Anyone willing to maker a financial donation instead (or being greedy AS WELL AS ;) :pirate: :cheeky: ) can make the contact as in my previous post! ~ Grahame

Follow legitimate avenues, if you truly wish to contribute and avoid the insincere, attention seeking dreamers.

My concern is that Dominican Crossroads, a 100% legit & very good organisation, will get contaminated by the flack arising from all this.

This is a plea for people wishing to help to contact Dr. Bob or Lindsey Kaufman directly, please.

And on a side note, I know there are expats who have an idea & think no Dominican could possibly have had the same bright idea :ermm:, but please CHECK first. Dominican response to this tragedy at all levels has been magnificent. Let us all support the already organised Dominican efforts & those voluntary groups like Crossroads who have proved themselves to be excellent over years and years of work.

Thank you.

I have been pm'd and told that Dominican Crossroads has nothing to do with this.
Personally there is nothing I can do from here, will be on the East Coast this coming Thursday with items.
I certainly would like to see names and pictures of what is going on, now that some statements have been made about the op.

I am not removing any as I am not sure what is or isn't true!
Warnings have been issue all around the world to beware of scams, not saying this is one because I do not know any of the participants.

To be clear, Dominican Crossroads, a legal non-profit, is conducting a campaign to collect items for Earthquake relief. We have organized this campaign alone. Ladybird is not part of our organization. We have been in contact with the Dream Project and may in the future combine some resources. The Dream Project is also a legal non-profit.

The list of our collection sites is growing. At the time being all of our sites are in Sosua and Cabarete. All of our collections sites are clearly labeled with a poster that asks people to donate "Just One Thing!" The name of our organization is also clearly labeled on the poster.

Anyone on the North Coast who does not feel comfortable making a donation at a satellite site, may bring their donation directly to Dr. Bob's, next to Coastal.

Please be sure when making a donation that you are contributing to an established and trusted source.

Anyone with specific questions may feel free to PM me.

Time to close this as it appears to be bringing out the idiots.

Maybe some of you should get your asses out of the armchair and actually do something, rather than spend your time going after someone that is obviously trying to help and has good intentions.

Let me add...

My comments were directed at a few people in the background that take it upon themselves to stir up as much BS on DR1 as possible, my comments had nothing to do with any charitable organization or those individuels that are actually doing something to help the situation in Haiti.
