sufganiot, you say? classic polish sweets as well, down to the type of filling (but sans religious regulations regarding ingredients/preparation). i wonder how many polish dishes were borrowed from jewish cuisine?

and i swear, i was looking at pączki recipes last night and set up for making them sometime in january...

The thing is that Jews lived fairly peaceably in Poland for about 700 years. Until it.....changed, irrevocably, in 1939.. SO MUCH of Jewish cuisine, in my family anyway, is instantly translatable to a Polish equivalent. I bet we cook the same way, but just have different words.

And don't forget that those borders btwn Poland/Lithuania/Ukraine/Alsace/etc. were constantly fluctuating.
