Try restaurant "Samurai"--not far from the Acropolis Mall--for the best Sushi on the island. Hands down. Nothing remotely close. try their White Tuna!

Samurai and Pato Palo are my two favorite restaurants in Santo Domingo, but honestly, their are dozens of other great restaurants, and people here that live in Santo Domingo will better steer you where to go.
