FTR, Florida expanded "Castle Doctrine" or "Stand Your Ground " Laws last year:

NRA-ILA :: Releases

NRA said:
The "Castle Doctrine" simply says that if a criminal breaks into your home, your occupied vehicle or your place of business, you may presume he is there to do bodily harm and you may use any force against him.

It also removes the ?duty to retreat? if you are attacked in any place you have a right to be.

Furthermore, this law provides protection from criminal prosecution and civil litigation for those who defend themselves from criminal attack.

In the DR, if you hire an armed (gun) "Watcheeman" from a Security Company and he shoots & kills an intruder, you have no problems with the police or the family of the intruder. The Company simply sends the watchman back to his remote village in the campo.
However, if you personally hire a man as a watchman and give him your gun to use, and he kills an intruder, then you have 2 problems,#1 with the police, who will put you in jail until the lawyers sort it out with your money.
#2 with the family of the dead intruder, who will make your life miserable when finally get out of jail. (Correct me if I'm wrong on this please Mr. Guzman). Canadian Bob

the first thing to do...

...after you shoot an intruder in your house in the DR is to find their badge and get rid of it.

Rule #2, If you are going to shoot them, KILL them. Less chance of them still hurting you, and it makes for only 1 liar in court.;)
