How to check the official title of a lawyer?

Hello,
I have business to tend to in Las Terrenas, and need to work with various lawyers.
How can I officially check that a lawyer indeed is registered as one and has the right to practice?
The same question applies for Notaries also.
Is there a specific web site that allows these types of verifications?

I have no idea how you check, but it's a good question.
