I agree with both of you Bushbaby and mike that we need more details. I would like to know if anyone in this forum knows anyone who had purchased Full Cover Insurance and had gotten into a car accident and the insurance company had cover all the damages like is done here in the US......because all I had heard is negatives feedback. I had been advice number of times not to waste the money on Full Cover in DR because it doesn't work. If there is an insurance company making the different I would like to know so I can purchase full cover on my vehicle?
agree on the absolutely non-US or German or so ever behavior of the insurance companies over here on the Isle.
i followed close by a good neg example of such spring to summer 2008.
a close long time friend of mine runs a excursion here in PC since over 10 years, so somewhere last spring he purchased with some financing plan of banco popular a brand new 14 seater Van, the full cover insurance been a must on the deal and been included in the rates/conditions negociated.
everything looked fine.
i sorrily do not remember at this moment what the name of that insurer is, but i will ask tomorrow or after when i see my buddy.
after less than 3 months of age of that brand new full cover insured Van's life he had been in santo domingo for some shopping and see the family.
few hours later he came back to the Van and that poor Van shows a very hard hit on the front left, red color all over the area of the hit on the white Van, nobody around who saw anything, at least nobody told so.
the hassle began.
to the cops first to report the stuff aso, right away contact with the insurance company, even that he had been in st dgo that moment they told him to drive back home(to PC), they will send their technician for the report soon, important is that he shows the vehicle to the cops and get's a report from them.
so he did.
some days passed by(nearby daily phonecalls during the whole process of several months), that technician guy from the insurance really showed up in PC, looked on the Van(the left front been hit by something red right on the edge, lights on the left been all gone and no piece of metal on that side been in a condition to repair such, need of replacement) and said: ooh, that's bad, to value that we need to check the vehicle in santo domingo with our "certified" mechanics. yeap, life always shows up with a new and higher level of funny sides, you never know.
an other 2 days later the Tow car ordered by the insurance company arrived in PC and took the Van to St Dgo.
my buddy started a 2 weeks period of paying cabbies for the pick up of his customers for his tour.
they called and told him that there is still some trouble with some spare parts which did not arrive , yet, but he could come and get the Van so he could use it, at least the lights are fixed to drive safely.
so heck, he took the next day's early morning guagua to the capital and got his Van back, it feels so good to own a brand new vehicle, man feels such that good. they fixed the new lights in with tiraps and anything else so they would not fall out, because nothing else been done to that Van during the last 2 weeks.
the full cover insurance policy shows the writing that the insurance company has the right to purchase the needed items for the reparation at the location where they can get them for the best rate on the market, and that's outside of the country, yeap, and i am not joking around here.
the Van finally been done, only to count together the numberless phonecalls to ask for an update would summ up to a amount which would pay a very nice dinner for two at a top restaurant here.
the last pieces to put that Van together been fixed in a bit less than 5 months after the accident happened and been reported. and they first asked him to drive down to santo domingo again so their prefered mechanic's place can put all together, but at least they agreed to the deal that they send the parts and his mechanics put them together to make that vehicle run. my friend is running an excursion here and has his own mechanics place on his property to do so.
that's dominican full coverage insurance.
yes,
there are differences compared to other countries, ha ha.
when talking cases like that i am so happy that my lil honda is now nearby 11 years old, thanks god still no real hit, basic insurance is enough because nobody would give a full coverage anyways on the ole baby, a few scratches on the sides from the once in a while too much bothering motoconcho drivers trying to pass on the right, after 14 years on the isle i don't care anymore about such small stuff, neither do i about that stu.. MCDriver falling down on his face on such usual actions.
if that car would be new,
if that motoconcho who anyways has nothing of an valuable insurance for such would scratch it
and my full cover insurer would start a hassle,
heck, i don't write it here, would not be family friendly and the new car may get ole before they release me again, lol.
i like this thread,
bring's something in mind what effects nearly each of us here on the bord, but of course as long as we don't get hit we usually do not think much about such stuff.
we should start to make a list of insurers who have been reliable/serious and which ones been just a p.i.t.a.
we should start a list of our experiences with the names of the insurers and include by what deal(financing with which bank aso) we got that insurance aso, because they are very often part of the deal/purchase, maybe even related to the financing bank/company.
happy accident free viaje everybody
Mike
