I just received blueprints for a certain large metal product. Small prints on computer.
Outside dimensions in Metric; inside (to meet ASTM rules) are in inches.
And they think I am a dinosaur!

I rest my case!

Yes Bob, I can think in both systems.... just don't like it!

I worked for an engineering company once upon a time. There were all these little rules-of-thumb used in design - expressed in gallons, feet, etc. Fresh out of college I asked - why aren't we using metric units? Because all our rules of thumb are in english units! But why don't we switch to metric? Because all the piping and pumps and hardware are sized in english units, too. But why don't the hardware companies provide metric sizes? Because all the engineering specifications we write are in english units! It is really hard to change that . . .

"The caveman system is called Imperial"...so true!

The metric system should be worldwide because calculating with ie. 15/16 is a b*tch!

Who is measuring with thumbs and feet...we did that 2million years ago, get real!

There are only 5 countries* on planet Earth that use Fahrenheit...imagine!!

* Google it

one of Ronald Reagan's first executive orders was to undo Carter era plan to transition to metric.  He also nullified carter's executive order to keep the thermostats in WH at 68.
