National Carnival Parade on Sunday, 17 March on the Malecon

The Ministry of Culture organizes every year the National Carnival Parade on the Malecon in Santo Domingo. This year the parade will be on Sunday, 17 March 2024, starting at 2pm through around 6pm.

This year the National Carnival is dedicated to the province of San Cristobal. The carnival parade gathers the best representations of carnival groups from all around the country. The king and queen of this year’s carnival are artist and designer Luis Rivas and communicator Jatna Tavarez.

In preparation for the Sunday parade, the Ministry of Culture has called the shutdown of street stretches on the Malecon and nearby streets from 13 March to 18 March. People line up along the Malecon to watch the parade.

People headed in the East-West or West-East directions are asked to use the alternate routes of the Independencia, Bolivar, 27 de Febrero, Correa y Cidrón, Mexico and the...

Pickpockets from allover the country are already on their way to Santo Domingo. At this Carneval they steal your sneakers if you don't walk fast enough.
Leave everything in your Car. 2000 Pesos and your Car Key in the frontpocket of your pants and you are good to go.
