Seriously, do you feel that the walk down PC is unsafe?

My main concerns are getting run over by a moto or breaking an ankle in one of the storm drains.

Yeah for the most part walking down PC is relatively safe, simply because of the amount of traffic (foot or othewise) at most times of the day. The problem may occur if you decide to turn off PC, down one of the dark side roads.

Wouldn't be wise at all to do that......that would be about as smart as walking through Charamicos late at night.......:dead:

The thing you'd have to worry about from around the Shark Bar down to the Cuba Libre Bar is the more hardcore putas hang in that area, and some will come up and blatantly put their hands in your pockets or anything else they think they can get away with to steal your money.....

very true. then if you put your hands on them, the local guys come to their rescue and you have problems. personally i usually moto everywhere around sosua at night. i have a few trusted moto guys i deal with everytime i visit.

its just how ever you feel with it.. i feel ok walking there

Well Ill be honest here Daniel, there has been a whole bunch of times i have felt a bit unsafe. Guess when its dark and you see the local guys just hanging about on their motoconchos you just dont know whats going up. Also a bunch of times when i had some lady company i do worry who and what there talkin about when on the phone talking in spanish. its just me i guess. in reality its just common sense!!

I once had this local kid, he was about 20. well he was offering me all sorts of stuff. to get rid of him i said yeah maybe tommorow. Well one evening i was relaxing in my room when the hotel attendant banged on my door saying im wanted by whatever his name was. i ignored. he eventually tracked me down to a bar and i couldnt get rid of him. I gave him like 20$ just to get rid of him.

Plus I was scammed out of $10,000 at the sosua bay casino and practically kept to ransom until the money came. sosua can be very shady if you let it be. I prefer Cabarete any day but sosua has a cool edge for some action

peace out

Can I ask what happened? Something similar happened to my daughter & son-in-law at the Hamaca Casino in Boca Chica - $4400 gone.

Exactly how does that casino scam go? ...just so we know....

I remember one time not so long ago I was at the casino near Coppa (between Playa Dorada and Puerto Plata) and was invited to play a very strange game for free....with a spinning wheel of some kind and a strange guy doing all the spinning and counting.

When my free chips where out I stopped playing that game though and I didn't have any problems...even got a free beer later...

Well it went similar to that, I was bored one night, got suckered in to play this game I never played before with a free bet. Basically its like roulette with a whole bunch of numbers on a cloth and you got these red balls in a pot you chuck them in a spinning bowl and they rest, then you get an accumalated total. If its a black number you keep going on to 100. long story short i got to 99 real quick and I just needed 1 more black number to win $100,000.00 (ohh typical yeah). So I kept going thinking like a fool I would win, needless to say I didnt. I was high and not in a good state of mind.

Now the stupid thing was they give you credit, you sign a piece of paper saying you are good for the cash. this is the dodgy thing and I beg anyone not to fall for this crap again. Im not a gambler and not a mug, I just got high on holiday and my logic went out the door.

When reality hit home I was like sh*t what the fu*k have you done. The casino guy was like right Im taking you to the hotel and am taking your passport until you pay up. When I went to the safe in my room I was like fu*k this Im not paying so I packed my bag and grabbed my passport and ran out the back of the hotel and sprinted up the beach and hid in a cave. I planned to bale down to SD the next day and carry on my vacation in puerto rico or something. Well after 3 hours of hiding his hench men found me hiding and the next 2 days were amongst the worst of my life. I ended up sleeping rough until the money arrived, I was even shown a gun and warned that if i tried that againn Im done by the american casino boss!!!

Call me stupid, id say more crazy but it was a heck of a journey. my friends say its movie material.

Yeah...sounds like you did several obvious mistakes that evening. Even though they where not late to take advantage of your mis-moves it is hardly a "scam"... (edit: even though I'd agree to call this whole game a big scam...)

...I suppose that game is strange and just made to try to sucker tourists. I am glad I didn't continue to play and I probably shouldn't have started at all...

Thoose casinos not adjecent to large tourist hotels are probably a lot worse...

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Yeah no problem, glad to share especially if it stops someone going through it.

But what doesnt kill us makes us stronger, Im over it.

Now Id like to disagree with you, while I made several obvious mistakes, I know every single one them. It is in fact a scam as you CAN NOT WIN that game. Its a plain as day SCAM!!

That's the one. Plus they were given the impression they were playing with pesos - they thought they were risking a little over $100/US, not $4,000.

I agree, that guy has no soul. And he plays up the "Hey I'm American like you, I'm on your side". Payback can be a bi**h.

Holy cow, they don't play around. Wonderful for tourism.

As they got higher up, they brought a girl over to "help", and she'd pull the balls out so fast that they couldn't see how many or what. When they got to $4000 lost, and realized it was dollars and not pesos, panic set in. The creep dealer tried to talk them into one more time, for $1,600 more, and if they won "you won't owe us anything". Thank God they said no.

OH, how could I forget?? They paid the $4000 on a credit card, and AFTER they got home to US the creeps charged ANOTHER $2500 to their card [which my daughter reported and didn't have to pay]. She had her card # changed immediately.

Questions for you Sky....or for anyone else who knows.....

Obviously this is not a secret scam, has been going on for a long time in more than one place in the DR - so why doesn't someone stop it? Imagine how many others have been affected, those who either were too ashamed to admit they were scammed, or who just didn't know what to do about it????

Are there NO casino regulations in DR that could stop this? Someplace to report it?

Does everyone [Dominicans] feel that it's okay, because it's just the stupid Americans/foreigners getting fleeced???

Is this 'you-can't-win' game in a lot of Dominican casinos?
