The Spanish arrived in 1492. After initially friendly relationships, the Ta?nos resisted the conquest, led by the female Chief Anacaona of Xaragua and her ex-husband Chief Caonabo of Maguana, as well as Chiefs Guacanagarix, Guam?, Hatuey, and Enriquillo. The latter's successes gained his people an autonomous enclave for a time on the island. Nevertheless, within a few years after 1492 the population of Ta?nos had declined drastically, due to smallpox, genocide, execution^[22] and other diseases that arrived with the Europeans,^[23] and from other causes discussed below. The last record of pure Ta?nos in the country was from 1864. Still, Ta?no biological heritage survived to an important extent, due to intermixing. Census records from 1514 reveal that 40% of Spanish men in the colony had Ta?no wives,^{[citation needed]} and some present-day Dominicans have Ta?no ancestry.^[24][25] Tainos were stated to be extinct in Hispanola by as a result of genocide by the Spanairds.^[26] "By 1535, say the leading scholars on this grim topic for all practical purposes, the native population was extinct."^[27] Remnants of the Taino culture include their cave paintings,^[28]as well as pottery designs which are still used in the small artisan village of Hig?erito, Moca.^{[citation needed]}

I remember going off on a Dominican guy in a store arguing with me that the dominoes cost so much because there made of hueso, as I showedhim the sticker saying they were urea. He just laughed when he knew he was busted.

First DR tourist destination.

Dominican Republic first tourist destination "Long Beach Hotel" was turned down by DR tourism authority during the second period of President Leonel Fernandez.

This is the only thing left over there...

What a shame a historic place turned down due to economic interest of a PP servant in government...

If I would have the money I would buy this property 2 Millions Dollars.
