Indeed, it seems the general blackout threat was some type of leverage against SIE & EDE's. I am glad it all worked out, however, because it would have been hell.

Within 1 month, we'll know what the new agreement is (maybe?)

May 31st...

Here we go again. Approximately one week.

SANTO DOMINGO ESTE. The Electricity Distribution Company of the East (EDE Este) informed that as of next May 31 of the current year the extension of the electricity supply contract with Luz y Fuerza Company will expire.

In a statement, addressed to the public, and especially to the inhabitants of El Limón and Las Terrenas, of the province of Samaná, EDE Este indicates that it has reached this decision due to the unsustainability of the debt accumulated by Luz y Fuerza in the last months.

"We have exhausted a long wait time in search of Luz y Fuerza could honor their commitment," he adds.

He emphasizes that he is not responsible for the inconveniences that this decision may cause to the inhabitants of those communities and to the clients of Luz y Fuerza.

In the statement, Ede Este notes that "Luz y Fuerza has the power to contract all its electricity demand with any generator or failing to buy it in the free market (Spot market)," he says.
