The Coast Guard of Puerto Rico repatriated 18 illegal immigrants to the Dominican Republic after being arrested at sea in actions that took place last Tuesday near Aguadilla, in the west of the island.
The arrests, the Coast Guard said in a statement, were carried out by the Caribbean inter-agency special border group.
Another eight face potential charges against him for violating immigration laws and attempting to re-enter US territory, the statement said.
The commander of the Coast Guard in the sector of San Juan, Eric King, said that the "rapid response and coordination between agencies allowed intercepting and arresting the 26 immigrants in a dangerous situation."
