Shipping Dog from DR to USA

Hi DR1,

I need advice on how to ship a dog from Santiago to NYC. I've searched online and have not found concrete information (aside from making sure the dog has all its vaccinations). I'd like to know if there is a service that does this or what is a good airline, costs, and any other restrictions or things I should know.

The dog I am interested in shipping is a large mixed breed, however, it is still a puppy (approx 10 weeks old).

Has any DR1er traveled with their dogs in July/August? I read somewhere that airlines won't allow dogs/pets in the cargo area if the departing or arriving airport has a temperature above 85 degrees.

Many airlines won't fly animals in cargo to certain areas in those months, but depends on the airline.

I checked Airline to airline online the best way for my animals to fly, it meant us moving a month later to the DR.

Continental, now United , used to have the best pet travel program - and the most expensive.

Typically, the summer months are taboo.

Thank you for the link. I never thought of searching Google for pet travel. I kept looking for shipping services (e.g., door-to-door or airport-to-airport). I'll definitely give United a call.
