Another increasingly major player in the Dominican aviation industry is Sky High Aviation (or simply Sky High) based at Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo. I think this Dominican airline has one of the nicest livery.

Anyway, on December 13 starts the Santo Domingo - Miami and back routes. It will fly once a day, all days of the week except Fridays.

It has been an airline since 2012, Dominican from the start.

I saw the name pop up as I was searching for flights in December. I was wondering if this was another fly by night Dominican airline.

Ironically, one day after this thread was created an article on how Sky High started was published in the Listín Diario newspaper (pages 40 - 41). The founder is the guy (Juan Bautista Chamizo) sitting in an airplane seat in the second part, not only is he Dominican but a pilot too. He basically started the company without thinking about the risks (something necessary regarding how many successful companies are started, you think things through and chances are high you will never start the "crazy" business.)

Has anyone had any experience of this airline? I'm planning a little trip to see a friend in St Kitts and they fly direct so I am tempted. I've found the flights on their website which seems to be reasonably basic. But I can't see them listed as departing from St Kitts on any of the major sites like Google Flights

The first thing that came to my mind was the movie Soul Plane with Kevin Hart. Snoop Dogg was the pilot and he was very "sky high". Funny af movie if you haven't seen it.

Brugal is served on the SkyHigh flights. This was of the maiden flight between Providence, Rhode Island - Santo Domingo. This is the second of several destinations in the USA that will be served by SkyHigh.

It must be a success since those Brugal bottles look almost empty. lol

Sky High has a flex option in which you can reserve a flight many months before by putting down US$50 and you have until the month before the flight to pay the balance. That way you guarantee a flight ticket at a lower price than buying closer to the date of travel. Ironically, based on company data, Dominican cliente living in the DR don't really take advantage of this feature, rather clients in other countries where they have direct sales. (30:00)

She also comments on middle class living in the DR based on comparisons she has made by travelling to many countries including developed ones. (29:00)

Has anyone had any experience on Sky High? I want to visit a friend in St Kitts. The options are a direct flight on Sky High which leaves SDQ at a convenient 2pm and returns at 4.30pm a few days later, perfect times for me. Or flying on a more well-known airline like Copa, paying a lot more and having 2 or 3 connections, so a way longer trip, more hassle, more cost. Obviously I'm attracted to Sky High. They are flying Embraer planes which seem to have a good track record and I can't find many recent reviews on them.

Good luck to SkyHigh on the new routing.

I'm now going to reply to an eight month old post. Yes I flew SkyHigh MIA to SDQ less than two weeks ago. I like competition so I decided to skip AA on that trip. 1) SkyHigh use Embraer 190 (50 seats I believe) so few people at check in, took about five minutes. 2) Departed from concourse F at MIA far away from the AA crowd plenty of space in the seating area. 3) Ticket price about the same as AA, check in bag included. 4) Onboard service about the same as AA, but coffee much better. 5) The flight arrived SDQ early evening with no other arriving passengers at immigration, through in less than 10 min.

The jet didn´t fall down, no doors fell of. I have no vested interest in SkyHigh, but will fly SkyHigh again.

Looks like the airline is capitalizing off the travelers who go to El Salvador for the ultimate purposes of entering the USA (illegally).

Maybe, but most passengers in Arajet’s Santo Domingo - El Salvador flights are Salvadorans, usually visitors to the DR. Will see what will be most of Sky High’s passengers.
