that should be interesting with sosua's large german population ?

January 6, 1995.
The Dominican Republic's Haven for Jewish Refugees

Edelesten is Jewish and that he also would be working with others to promote Jewish tourism. However, all work has stopped on the hotel, casino and his mansion for several months. I was told that he had a "falling out" with a partner in Las Vegas.

you know, the holocaust happened 68 years ago. and some of the original jewish refugees who arrived to sosua actually came from germany and austria. and mind you, when german pensioners started arriving to sosua there were no arguments and bloodshed. looks like the people with deepest involvement in jewish-german relations are a lot more forgiving than yourself.

Im so phucking tired of hearing of the never ending story of the holocaust.
Todays Germans NEVER lived back then.

me too. this is idiotic. the war ended 68 years ago. in order for the german pensioners to actually have participated in it they'd have to be nearly 90. how many 90 year old germans are there in sosua?

Just what would Sosua have to offer Israeli tourists? Discos with pick-pockets, NYC crews and Reggaeton? Maybe Reggaeton is big there...

I am 65 years old and my parents survived Auschwitch and other camps but I don't blame the current generation Germans for this but I will never forget it and I am incredibly gratefully to all the alliance who freed Europe from the Nazis. Without the Americans, Canadians, English, Polish etc. I would not exist today.

Incredible: The Holocaust List found

This story was aired on CBS on "60 MINUTES" **
about a long-secret German archive that houses a treasure trove of information on 17.5 million victims of the Holocaust. The archive, located in the German town of Bad Arolsen, is massive (there are 16 miles of shelving containing 50 million pages of documents)and until recently, was off-limits to the public. But after the German government agreed earlier this year to open the archives, CBS News' Scott Pelley traveled there with three Jewish survivors who were able to see their own Holocaust records. It's an incredibly moving piece, all the more poignant in the wake of the meeting of Holocaust deniers in Iran and the denial speeches in the UN.

We're trying to get word out about the story to people who have a special interest in this subject. It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russia peoples looking the other way! Now, more than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust to be "a myth," it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.

israeli youth is interested in history. it could be fun to visit the place so far off the usual immigration path for jews escaping the war. especially seeing it's a tropical island and makes great holiday spot in its own rights. if only there was more than the museum. maybe few houses exactly as they were back then? maybe a meeting with some of the families that still live in sosua (obviously children and grandchildren of the settlers). maybe a place where they could see a short document movie about first years of jewish settlers in DR? and then, after hours, drink and the girls, because why the hell not.

The building with shops, right behind Bailey?s Bar Restaurant and next to Banco Popular on calle Dr. Alejo Martinez and restaurant ?la Roca? are one of the first buildings from Jewish settlers in Sos?a.
Then, after visiting the Jewish cemetery compensate your bored mind with plenty drinks and women to enjoy this triple.

I think it's great to promote Israeli tourism on the island. Israelis are fun loving adventurous people. They are not easily offended like other tourists and take things in stride. They always look for a deal and don't like to treated like schmucks. Besides with the ongoing international isolation as a result of the actions of Israeli govt.
Israelis will find DR a breath of fresh air. Plus they can go to Haiti, if they've got the time.

I'm also holocausted out. I will say no more other than that fatigue concerning the whole issue is sinking in many places.

Oh oh and finally more recognition about the DR concerning the positive contributions during the shoa should bring in more people interested in that particular period in history

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to relive it."
Never forget!

for the love of god, will you let go? it is not in human nature to grab onto the past. everything is forgotten sooner or later. who remembers slaughters that happened 100 years ago? 500? 1000? human nature is to repeat the history. because the memory never ever lasts.

How can we let go?? First, second, third generation still suffer from this item as well as the grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren whose relatives were killed in wars in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Guam end so on. Should we forget all this? You must be kidding.

forgetting is INEVITABLE. each generation will care less and less. as i asked, who remembers wars fought a 100 years ago? this too will be forgotten, no matter how much you try to cling to the thought it even matters at all. it does not. in the slightest. the soldiers of the past are sleeping in their graves.
