From todays DR1 News:
Indices works for sustainable architecture
The Instituto de Diseno, Construccion y Espacios Sostenibles (Indices) was launched last week to promote socially and environmentally sustainable projects through education, training, research and consultancy. The entity seeks to promote green building practices, reduce pollution, regenerate communities, and guarantee good health for current and future generations. Indices announced an agenda of conferences, talks on landscaping and sustainable architecture for the coming year. It will also be holding an annual event, the Green Building Expo Dominican Republic, which will bring together entities promoting this area of interest.
Domingo Contreras of the Atabey Innovation Center said that the new entity consolidates efforts underway in Dominican society for a more environmentally friendly and sustainable future. The founding members of the organization include architect Neiquel Filpo, a specialist in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications, Nelson Camilo, Jonas Andujar, Claudia Taboada and Silviana Moya.

The Architects and Designers that I have met in this country are motivated by sustainable design and it is good to read such news.
Very interestingly, the organization Green Planet Architects ( http://www.greenplanetarchitects.com/es/ ) has a strong base here in Santo Domingo and it's founder, a Dutch national, lives here in DR.
