Vaina also means a pod - vainitas are green beans, it's also the root of vanilla - vainilla. Similar to sheath.

okay, so is there some program where dominicano spanish is taught, what do you all think about Rossetta stone??? and I need to really get better at speaking native spainish like a true dominicano. You see, my dad is from Puerto Plata, and now I have two kids(a girl(18 months, and a boy 6 months) and I want to take them back to visit our family in Puerto Plata but I also want to teach them their heritage and language and all that includes, so help!!! ha, ha, ha gracias
