When the Public School Teachers Association (ADP) is demanding more benefits and a wage increase, the Ministry of Education released data on the average cost of a student in the public school system. ADP teachers are among the best paid in the country, and now the guild seeks a 25% wage increase.The Ministry of Education says that the government invested on average RD$88,000 per student in 2021. For most of 2021 only online classes were available. The Ministry of Education in 2016 had reported the government invested on average RD$60,848 per student.

Diario Libre reports that after the government increased spending to 4% of GDP in 2016, most of the increase has been allotted to personnel. A report in Diario Libre points out: “In education, we invest 4% of GDP and allocate 26.13% of public spending. Teachers’ salaries doubled in the seven years between 2012 and 2019.”

The high investment would be enough to pay for students to study in private education, with a likely increase...

This is a disgrace......such high costs with no educational results. And those directly responsible for the teaching/learning in the schools who rank at the bottom worldwide now want a 25% wage increase? Ladrones!

It's done that way for a reason.
Can you imagine how the average Dominican would react to the way this nation has been raped and pillaged, if the general population were as educated as people running the country?

The responsibility of educating children belongs with the parents, ...... period ..... not the government ....

Maybe the responsibility yes but the government has to provide a structure for the parents to be able to educate their children.
