Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.- Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry recently met with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to discuss the ongoing border dispute with the Dominican Republic, particularly regarding the construction of an irrigation canal on the Masacre River in the Dajabón province. This meeting took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where Henry was attending the Caribbean Community (Caricom) – Saudi Arabia summit.

During their meeting, Henry explored with Blair the potential role of Blair’s foundation, the Institute for Global Change, in mediating the conflict. The aim is to facilitate the resumption of talks and normalize relations between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, ensuring respect for the rights of both nations.

Tony Blair, who served as Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from 1997 to 2007, founded the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change post-retirement. His institute operates in several countries, and Blair is known for his involvement in various diplomatic situations globally.

The conflict between the Dominican Republic and Haiti centers around the irrigation canal construction on the Haitian side of the Masacre River. In response, the Dominican government had temporarily closed the borders, later reopening them with certain restrictions. In a related development, Haitian municipal authorities in Juana Méndez have reportedly decreed a ban on the entry of products purchased by Haitians in the binational market of Dajabón.

Tony Blair is a great mediator/negotiator in international conflict resolution.

Oddly enough, he might have the political ability to do something for Haiti. We live in a strange world and politics makes for strange bedfellows. The UN is useless. January is still months away, the Kenyans want their money upfront, and no word on where this initiative is at this point. Blair is not there to resolve the overall Haitian problem. He’s there to resolve the border problem. If he can expand his efforts and get the UN to proceed with the Kenyan intervention, then good on him.

Well, he stopped the Iraq war, so Haiti/DR should be no problem. Oh, wait a minute......
Iraq doesn't have nice beachside resorts where you can spend the day drinking margaritas and frolicking in the pool. Tony Blair has a very tough mission ahead. Poor guy. The next thing we know he invites Haiti's Prime Minister for a second meeting, this time at Starbucks in the horrible Puntacana Village/Blue Mall area. We can all feel his pain.

The article makes it seem the Haitian canal is being built in the Dajabón province.

It's just amazing that after decades of intents and failures there are still people that think that you can argue with this people.
It's hopeless !!! Only force can bring improvement and if force does not work, apply even more force. Carrot time is over, let the stick to his magic.

Go in there and kill everybody that has a gun or machete in his hands. That's the way until today how they bring peace to african countrys and it works just fine. If you like it or not.
lol, machetes are a way of life in Haiti. From cutting cane to pineapples to bananas to plantain. You would decimate the population, male and female, if you killed everyone with a machete.

I didn't see a lot of guns when I was there. Generally you need money, which few Haitians have. We had 1 but it never got used except for practice, thank God. The other ones I saw were security only.

Regarding the gangs though, you're spot on. They need a fair trial as soon as they are executed.

I saw a video of the 'woke' US Defense Secretary while he was visiting Nairobi, promising the Kenyans 'robust' US Economic and Logistical support for their 'mission' in Haiti.
Pretty soon this will be know as the "Haitian Conflict". The US is telling the Kenyans, don't worry, this one's in the bag 😉👍
