Thanks for the info. Reading your last statement does that mean each letter costs $2.75 USD. That seems expensive. I am currently using earthclassmail which is very cool but periodically they get mail I would like to get here. I guess I will just wait to get a bunch of mail in one envelope from Earthclass so I don't have to pay the 2.75 per envelope. I didn't think EPS was 2.75 per envelope.

Yes, that's the only problem I currently have with them. But I had that same issue with an other mail forwarder in Sosua, but with them it came even closer to USD 5.oo per single envelope.
I think I will try to work out a solution with TransExpress in Miami directly when I visit Florida next time, so they could bundle letters and envelopes over a set period of time.

So what is the best way to open an account? Go to the Vimenpaq office in Sosua or open a Transexpress account online? We also will be in Miami in a few weeks so could go to there office. Is the http://www.vimenpaq.com.do/ the spanish version of the Transexpress website? Are they the same company?

Your local office will most likely not be able to help you set up your new account.
You will have to CALL them in Santo Domingo... they will open the account LIVE over the phone at once. You'll get your personal address code and handle to log into TransExpress' site.
You'll be on in 10 minutes... and it's free to sign up (no credit card necessary). Have the ID you plan to use to retrieve your mail at hand when calling.
Don't forget to ask them what your closest pickup location is and to tell them you want your mail to be forwarded there automatically.

Let's see; I purchased a Panasonic Viera 50" hdtv plasma at Costco recently. Cost of tv (incl. UStax/shipping) = $1171.50. TV packaged weighs around 95#. Since it is basically new, assume the value would still be the same;
1171.50 * .56 (/$V, Duty) = $656.04

Before you get overly excited:
Even Vimenpac does not seem to recommend to ship typically desirable items like digital cameras, i-pods, fancy cell phones, lap tops and plasma tv's. The reason being the hungry agents at customs may pose a problem and clients may be surprised at the random customs fee they will get hit with. Vimenpac seems to invite clients wishing to import such items to call the main office to discuss details possible costs of such a transaction BEFORE they order.
I for one would be inclined to shop a place like PriceMart for a while until, like it has happened, a 50" tv pops up on special offer around USD 2000.oo to 3000.oo, as I suspect that, unless luck would be on my side, this may still be a most likely cheaper and more worry free shopping experience.
But then, I don't like to gamble much.

Can you explain the problem you had?
I still use Vimenpaq regularly. Until I find a batter option in the Cabarete/Sosua area I will continue to do so. They are not the best at importing items costing over $200 US or for large items. For that it would be better to use a door to door shipper from NY or Miami.
