I think this wedding stories forum is a great idea! I was specifically looking for weddings in Sun Village. If anyone has been married there or has attended a wedding there please share!
Best wishes to all. Nice pics!![/QUOTE

I can only comment that I have seen photos from a colleagues sister who had her wedding there in July 2004. From the 100.s of pics I saw, it looked great and they had a very positive experience with the resort and the staff who organised the event. Good luck.

DR Wedding

Hi,
I got married in DR back on Oct 05. However, we did not get married at a resort. We got married in my hometown of Jarabacoa. It was a wonderful wedding and much much cheaper than it would have been in the States. If anyone wants to see pics, let me know and I can email you my online album.

We had our wedding at Melia Caribe Tropical on May 29th 2006. It was wonderful and I'm so glad we chose to have a destinantion wedding. The gazebo at the Melia is great because it is more secluded and away from the foot traffic of the hotel guests. Everything went so well. We had about 55 people there and they came from different parts of the United States. People used different travel agents and websites for their packages including Expedia, American Express Vacations, Liberty Travel, Continental Airlines Vacations and American Airlines Vacations. People also went to traditional travel agents. About half of us booked rooms in the Royal Service section. This was totally worth it. We've stayed in the regular section before and it is certainly very nice, but the Royal Service section is true luxury and pampering. It's just a higher level of service and the pool and Gabi restaurant are so good you barely need to leave the Royal Service area. Prior to arrival, I had various communications with Angelica, the wedding coordinator. She's great, but don't freak out if it takes her a few days to respond to your emails, it is what it is.

Everything worked out well. No one got sick or anything like that. We advised our guests to take acidophilous pills for a few weeks leading up to the trip as well as during the trip. It has the same "good" bacteria that yogurt has so if you don't want to eat two yogurts a day, just take the acidophilus. We are convinced it's one of the reasons we've never gotten sick all the times we've visited DR. If you live in the NYC area, the consulate is in Times Square. There are a few in the U.S. but if there isn't one in your area, Angelica can provide you with the name and website of a service that takes care of all your paperwork translation in the United States. The wedding was beautiful, we had the musical trio, and the horse and carriage, it was definitely worth paying extra. We had a separate reception at night with open bar, hors d'ouevres and music because we had so many guests, but if we had a small group with just our family, like 15 or less people, we would have had a quiet private dinner, so if you have a small group, definitely talk to Angelica about all the options. You have a choice of the type of flowers you want. I wanted a tropical bouquet with colorful flowers native to the DR because I felt it went with the scenery, but if you are more into roses, you definitely can chose a more traditional bouquet. Basically, everything was beautiful, the ceremony started on time and without a hitch, our photographer took beautiful pictures, but we also had so many guests that we now have over 1,000 photos in our computer. Here's a link to the pictures of the wedding http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/queen...=&.done=http://photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos

I wish you all the best. Keep us informed as to how the visa process is going. We are always interested on getting hints to help others here.
Thought I would update you all.

We will be married 3 years in September and she is here with me since May 2006. Took us 20 months for the visa process and it is even longer now.

My wife has a good job, bought her own car, and likes living here in America. Everything is still going wonderfully. I would caution that I found a diamond in a pile of rocks. There are good ones out there but be careful.

Here you go.......

It's a little long but I thought I would post my review since I know I got a lot of help from people when I was planning :)

We stayed at the Superclubs Breezes Resort Spa Casino in Puerto Plata July 15- July 22 2006. The hotel was very nice I was pleased. We did have some of my family who waited a long time to check in so that was disappointing but I know how it is sometimes lol I had 22 family and friends come so it was a lot of people for a wedding away.

The wedding day was beautiful and perfect! It was hot and sunny! I had the wedding at the earliest day that I could so I could get it out of the way so we could all just relax after Everyone thought it was a great idea. I arrived on Sat and had the wedding on Mon. It was short, sweet and the wedding coordinator was great! I wasn't sure what to expect but it ended up being a great day and we were both extremely happy! We had a lot of fun on our wedding day I'm very organized so it was hard not knowing exactly how things get done. I met another couple and the bride was just as nervous not knowing anything but she got some tips from me. I hope there wedding was as great as mine!

FLOWERS- I had a picture of my flowers and they did them exactly the same They did a great job, since I was worried about that. I was so shocked how beautiful they came out!

CAKE- It's just a white cake so if you want to decorate it bring stuff. I put some flowers from my center piece and the cake looked gorgeous!

DINNER- Our dinner was at the Italian restaurant and the food was great! But when you are choosing your dinner ask what exactly the meals are. We picked a balsamic/vinaigrette salad. We thought it was going to be a green salad and it ended up being tomatoes with cheese inside and 2 lettuce leaves lol The presentation was great but we wanted a green salad They served bruschetta before, then the salad, we had a tomatoe basil soup it was good our guests enjoyed it too. Main course was chicken parmesan with pasta and desert our wedding cake. We had the vanilla it was yummy fresh whipped icing. I'm a chocolate lover but there chocolate is different so i went with Vanilla instead.
The table was set up beautifully I was very impressed and the staff were so sweet I tipped them of course!! They were really great to my whole family.

PICTURES- The photographer was good, my pictures came out very nice I was surprised. But he doesn't really tell you how to position yourself to ensure you get good photos sometimes. I had a few photos with eyes closed which I think he should of took a second one and sometimes people needed to be positioned closer etc. I think my family was driving the photographer crazy as they were busy taking there own photos and he was always waiting for them to take there shots lol I made some jokes with him to lighten the mood. But I had my paparazzi family with me lol I have tons of pictures. I did a lot of fun pics on the beach after the photographer was done and those are gorgeous!! It helped that my sister had a professional camera Oh ya he comes to your room to take a few photos before you leave to the ceremony, I didn't know that was going to happen I was only expecting Amelia with the flowers.

I received my fruit plate and two bottles of Presidente the first day we arrived those went down easy lol We also received another fruit plate and Champagne bottle in our room on the wedding day!! Breakfast in bed the next day was very nice too

I loved the music trio, my Dad laughed the whole way walking me from my room to the Gazebo lol
We even had a first dance for about 2 min in the Gazebo, we danced to a Bachata :)
You can have them play at your reception for additional cost.

As for the wedding it was great and I would recommend it to anyone at this resort! Amelia the wedding coordinator was very nice she did everything I asked for! It went smooth and we were able to enjoy ourselves!!!

Oh and I received my marriage certificate 1 1/2 weeks later I was so shocked I thought it would take longer, I was pleased!! I did leave Amelia a gift as well as a thank you but that's just how I am, I like to do things like that she was really happy and thankful!!

I have some pictures posted but they are from my sisters camera some poses the photographer did and had a clear shot but all the beach ones were done by my family:

Wedding December 07, Majestic Colonial, Punta Cana

My husband and I were married at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana.
All of our wedding arrangements prior to arrival were made through e-mail between us and the wedding co-ordinator Aurelio or his assistant Larissa.
When we arrived we met with Aurelio to discuss the wedding ceremony, where it would take place, flowers, meal options, weding cake, etc.
This was our only meeting with Aurelio before our wedding day. On the day of the wedding I was contacted by Aurelio to confirm the time the photographer would arrive and the delivery of my bouquet, and my wedding dress that had been steamed.
The wedding went off without a hitch. The ceremony was on time. The flower arrangement, meal, photographer etc was just perfect.
Our wedding package cost 1500$ u.s This included judges fees, meal, centerpieces for tables, room upgrade, late checkout, etc. The only extra I paid for was my bouquet which was 75$.
Everyday the hotel would provide different little surprises in our room such as wine and cheese, wine and dessert platters, rose petal filled bubble baths, sushi platters, honeymoon banners on the door, etc.
I found this hotel, and its services to be exceptional, and would definitely do it all over again!
If you guys have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line!

I married my Dominican husband in Cabarete, DR in october 2006. We were planning on a small wedding, just for close friends and family, but in the end it was a party with about 200 people. We didnt have a lot of money, so the wedding was basic, but very beautifull! We had a lot of help from friends and family! We married in Extreme Hotel, for free, coz we were friends with the manager, another friend of us a photographer made all the pictures (BEAUTIFUL!) Everything together was about $1000-1500, which included EVERYTHING, from the invitations to the outfit, dinner and drinks. About 15 friends and family from me flew over and 40 friends I knew from there. All the rest were friends from him and people that just showed up uninvited? (quite alot of uninvited people, dont know if thats normal over there???) Anyway I didnt let that bother me and I had the best night of my life. I dont have my pictures only anywhere, but if somebody wants to see pictures from the photo shoot before the wedding or pics from the wedding I can send them to you)

I got married at City Hall in NYC in 1967. It was all that my wife and I could afford at that time. Took all of 5 minutes.

how much would a basic wedding cost on the cheap side

I tell you I'm married my sweet english boy in jan 06, nothing fancy. Around ?200.00
He ask me out for a fancy dinner at Bricciola in Old colonial Zone. Where he ask the big question, I was in shock, tears of Happiness of course. The next day I told a friend on my way to work that (he as the big question) and I didn't know what to do. I was lucky I suppose she is a lawyer by profession, (she arrange the papers that he need, in order to get married)
she call me around midday and told you are getting married this Saturday at 12.00. Panicking I told another friend ( by the way it was Wednesday ) I told her that I was happy to get married in jeans and shirt - she work her magic and I got a dress
measure that afternoon at my lunch to be collect Saturday morning.
My sister bought 24 red roses and the next afternoon I went with my English boy to Villa consuelo (bit scary place) and got
some gold (very simple wedding ring) around ?50.00 for both they make it fit the same day.
Friday my friend that arrange the wedding got me Cake ( simple two level) and my neighbourd she owns a beauty salon help
me with my afro hair, decorations and make a barbecue after the wedding. I study art in the UASD so another friend was the
photographer .

Was a civil office in a shopping mall 9 people were present ( include myself and my hubbie)
Is the best day of our life, we still remember the Bbq party, the dance and that got out of the dress and got very comfy jeans and white shirt - I can send you the photos

We say that we will do a confirmation in the UK but to be honest we have each other and that is important
