Yes, I indeed accused you of posting false information on DR1!

It's one thing to say initially "I heard secondhand" he is in jail, it's another to post what you did.

Let's move on, I am not in the mood to get in a pi**ing contest with you.
I am sincerely sorry if I ruined your day.

I was in Boca Chica August 4-7. Middle-aged male traveling solo. I found Duarte to be MUCH more, shall we say... "tranquil" ... than in my preceding (mid-2004) visit. But I still had a good time.

The traditional BC nightlife is quite limited now. The Burbujas nightclub was packed with overly friendly (to the point of in-your-face) females who outnumbered the males at about a 3-to-1 ratio. LOUD, crowded, and too intense for my geezer tastes.

What I missed most was the early evening stroll along a busy Duarte. For those partial to street-side seating, the Swiss Bar (and cappuccino place), Italy Italy, the adjacent Italian place, Muchachas, Cafe Criolla, and the pizza place (across from the now closed Cosmos disco) were all still open. D'Nancy, Isla Bonita, and the Boat House (all minus street seating) are also still open. All, however, seem much less busy than in years past.

But during daylight hours, the beach scene was as good as ever. I spent most of my time at Playa Vista, and had my usual good time.

If one's looking for dozens of loud, crowded, late-late night options, BC (in its current state) is but a shadow of its former self. But if you like a small, laid-back beach town (and can tolerate fairly constant vendor/pimp hustling)... and sleep relatively normal hours while on vacation... I'd say go for it.

But all in all, I must say I prefer Sosua. I chose BC because I had a bunch of USAir miles (which meant flying into SDQ) and limited time (which made a trip to and from the south coast and Sosua impractical).

just my two cents...

Thanks, but it's not something I'm concerned about. It was brought up by another poster and I was surprised to hear it.

BTW, where is the Playa Chiquita Casino? (I know, near the Vorramor hotel :D). I've never heard of either of those places.

Both are in Sosua (an unannounced thread topic shift, I suppose)

i think have made up my mind.

I am gonna try to do a short trip to BC/SD to check out winterleague...and see my friends. then try to check out the north for a longer trip in feb.

I guess my main concern is meeting "like minded" people in the north. Oh i am certain they are there...but in my experience...it takes a couple of visits before one meets people of quality.

I never cruised duarte at night....but just sorta enjoyed watching the whole scene....as small and seedy as it was.

I am more of a beach bum rather than a partier....so my routine is beach...go to the hotel...shower and chill...(perhaps have a presidente)...meet folks for dinner...then chill for a bit at the hotel...then go out a bit around 10 or 11....and shoot some billiards....or just watch

I just think it is a shame that BC cant offer something for guy who is DL....and just wants someplace to hang out night....besides the one hooker infested disco. (nothing wrong with the disco..and i have nothing against the chica chasers).

Well..i hope the post about ruta 66 reopening is true.
