I've noticed that people reffer to Puerto Plata as "POP". At first I thought they were talking about a bar in the Zona Colonial that's named that way (as in "I was to POP and had a good time") But then the sentences started to be somehow criptic to me. Finally I found people meant Puerto Plata, and started wondering, where did they get that abreviation? I guess it's from the international aviation code of the city there (which I asume is POP, just like Santo Domingo is SDQ), but I'm just taking a guess.
Can anyone solve this for me? For Curiousity's Sake
P. S. This called my attention because the abreviation for Puerto Plata used here is Pto. Pta., which can really be a little too long for typing purposes, but then using just PP I think could be more accurate, or, better said, simpler.
