Dominican Vice President Raquel Peña has once again stepped up to defend the Dominican Republic against charges of racism fostered by Amnesty International. These charges stem from the Dominican policy of deporting undocumented, illegal aliens from Dominican territory.

However, since the vast majority of these deportations involve people from neighboring Haiti, which is a predominately black nation, charges of racism are frequent. Vice President Peña, however, was not at all timid in her rebuttal of these accusations, telling Amnesty International that the Dominican nation defends its sovereignty, and guarantees the legality of each foreigner that is in the country.

She stated that the laws of the country are in no manner anti-immigrant. She went on to say that the international agencies can say whatever they want to say, but they must respect Dominican national sovereignty...
