The Ministry of Tourism reports significant steps were taken this month for the restoring and revitalizing of Sosua Beach in Puerto Plata. Structures that had been illegally erected within the 60-meter coastal zone were demolished and removed.

The Executive Unit for the Readecuation of Neighborhoods and Environments (URBE), under the Ministry of the Presidency, initiated a comprehensive survey and registration of 208 commercial establishments within the restricted beach zone in 2021. Prior to demolition, extensive consultations were held with local community members to understand their needs and the nature of businesses operating in the area.

This project, part of the broader Sosúa Beach Recovery and Reordering initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism, aims to restore the beach to its natural state and promote sustainable tourism.
