Cost of renting a Kiosk in upscale malls in Santo Domingo

OK all you guys in the Capital a good friend of mine is expanding his business into Santo Domingo and is looking to rent space in one of the malls in Santo Domingo. He is looking for an upscale mall with lots of consumer traffic, he is also looking to get a price range in advance of his first trip to see more of less the costs of renting space or a kiosks in one of these malls. Thanks for your input in advance guys.

Diamond Mall was about US$4-500 per month for a kiosk last time I checked.
I'm guessing Plaza Central and malls with a lot more foot traffic will be more expensive.

Upscale malls completed would probably be;

Blue mall

Acropolis

Bella Vista

Average mall--Placa Central

I do a lot of meetings in Acropolis and find during the week the foot traffic is quite slow. Blue mall even slower. Bella Vista a smaller mall so maybe seems a little busier for that reason but still not much during week days.

The by far busier would be Plaza Central, but would not consider it upscale in terms of stores or demographics.

when was this? If this is still the going rate it is a fraction of what the two large malls in B?varo are charging for kiosks - well over US$1,000. Then again Diamond Mall is not that popular any more.

Though it's not upscale, the busiest mall in Santo Domingo is MegaCentro on the other side of the river.. They are advertising locals starting at 10,000 mensual.

This was at the end of 2010.

The best way is to contact the business office of all the Malls he/she wants to check upon. It's not only free, but can also provide a real base to negotiate rates with the Malls 100%.

Before he/she goes on to that phase I recommend that a visit at different times of the Day and week be carried out on the sites they are interested in. A simple sit and count of foot traffic in a 4 hour span can provide lots of info from where to make a good economic plan and counter offer for the kiosk/space.

A well researched biz plan will provide higher probabilities of success!

What type of biz is your good friend into?

Thanks Pichardo. He has a skin care business that he is expanding into the DR and will use the kiosks to sell and also to show free samples of his products. These are high end products so they would probably not do so well in a mall like Mega centro. So I was telling him to look more toward Blue mall or Diamante, What do you think?

A friend of mine imported a few containers of cosmetics for sale. They were siezed as he didn't have a Ministry of Health license. License is required for all pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. If these cosmetics are his own manufacture, he will need to submit safety testing.
Import licences:

Industrial products and commercial goods:

With the exception ofpharmaceutical products (including cosmetics, skincare products anddrugs), mostproducts donot require specific import licences. The MinistryofHealthissues import licences for pharmaceutical products, which are valid for a period of five years.

The reverse is truth!

High end Malls clientele tends to favor already famous and world brands over newcomers.

This is one biz in the same line that started with small kiosks (after years of carrying out biz from home and later by contracts with wedding planners, etc...) in Malls. But before that they started an ad campaign to associate their brand with the people in the markets they aimed for.

But this is really how they got going (the first kiosk was nothing but a small setup with two chairs in the Mall's hallway back then (I'll try to find you a picture of that)):

Tell him that the key is to have a solid biz plan and get a very good kiosk planner to carry out his entrance into the local market. Another key point is to have an even better publicity program before he opens the first kiosk in the city. Just by adding the words: Soon coming to a shopping plaza close to you, contact your local Mall to find out when we'll open there! He can create a "pull" for his biz from the potential Malls that will host kiosks.

There are three important things for him to follow to make it a success story in the city:

#1- Solid biz plan that accounts for location research, financial backup and commitment.

#2- Ad campaign that targets the social media in the age group it will focus, in the local area where it will open the first kiosk.

#3- Presentation is everything! It don't matter how good the product is if the packaging or delivery outlet is terrible. A very good kiosk planner is called for and more importantly one that projects the brand as an image itself.

I don't get it. Why did you dislike his prior posts? He didn't provide any information that I thought was objectionable.

I mean, 1) call the mall to get pricing; 2) put together a solid business plan; 3) do a walkthrough at different times to get a good sense of true foot traffic; and 4) get some help to design a good looking kiosk doesn't really seem like bad advice.

If Hillbilly had said the same thing, folks would be gushing all over him. But if it's Pichardo, then all his info is just bad.

Doesn't seem right, or fair-minded.

Why would anybody expect Pichardo to post any useful info after 5000+ useless posts?

The Diamond mall is so depressing, most of the stores are empty. There is a great hair salon there, and that is the only reason that I step foot in there..It's kind of sad..
