I just came home from round of golf and I am tired and kind of lazy. And I have a sudden urge for pizza. I tried calling a nearest dominos on google maps...

A Licey Al MedioSantiago De Los Caballeros, Dominican Republic

(809) 719-9999

I think the google map is out dated or the place isn't answering the phone. Does anybody know one in Avenida 27 De Febrero deliver to near Lumijor? I think I can order a specialty pizza with my limited Spanish but if they start asking too many questions or ask/give too many info I'll be stuck...

thanks,

Dominos is horrible. I had decent pizza once in the Colinas Mall. I think its time for the full time expats to chime in, Where is the best pizza in santiago? and who if anyone delivers? Inquiring minds want to know.

I don't think there is any pizza in the DR that I would call good. At best it is in the fair range, but Pizza Hut or Pizzarelli would be better than Dominoes.

Pizzarelli is decent. It's just not what an American from the Northeast would recognize as pizza. I always gotta laugh when I see corn on pizza.

Corn has no place on a pizza! Being an American from the Northeast, that is my stand and I am sticking to it.

We're spoiled when it comes to pizza.

It is like nobody else on the planet except for us from the Northeast part of the US and those in Italy understand what great pizza is. Sad, very sad.

I do hope the OP can find a passable pizza in Santiago and report back. My wife likes the pizza at PriceSmart and I will eat it.

I am so missing NYC Pizza... :(
I didn't want to drive at night but I had no choice. I drove to only place I knew how to get to from my house. I went to international plaza last night and decided to order take out. As usual Pizza Hut supreme was mediocre at best. But the thing about yesterday was I didn't want to go out. For the future references, I was wondering if there's any decent pizza/chinese that delivers?

I worked in pizza shop as a prep baker and to make it right is quite a process. Pretty much anyone can make bad pizza, but to make a good thin-crust NYC style is involved and requires the right kind of flour, a stone deck oven, proofing cans or boxes, and a 60-80 quart floor mixer that can handle 50 pounds of flour at once along with about 4 gallons of water. A stone deck oven is essential for a NYC crust.

Dominoes now uses an impinger conveyor belt oven which has it's points for speed and consistancy, but it's not a NY crust. An impinger oven blasts the pizza with super-heated air from both sides like a hairdryer on steroids.

One thing to look for is a place that has both wooden and metal pizza paddles("peels"). You only need the wooden paddle if you are cooking the pizza directly on the oven deck (as it should be.) Raw pizza sticks to the metal and it slides off the wood. You need the metal peel because it's thinner and can get under the baked crust better. A place that uses pizza screens would be my second choice, but I would never buy from a place that cooks on greased pans. An easy option in the DR would be a place that grills the crusts before topping them and finishing them in a regular oven.

This is one of the best videos I've seen on how the pros do it. The eggs are somewhat optional, as is draping it over your shoulder when you move it:

Bruno's NY Style Pizza Dough - YouTube

Those proof boxes are about $30 each in the US. I can only imagine what a dozen of them would cost in the DR. Ye-ouch.

The worse pizza we have bought here was at the Dominoes at Super Pola.
We were even dumb enough to try them a second time.

Their "cheese" really is BAD, BAD, BAD.

Talking about Super Pola, they carry DiGiorno pizza, at times they even have the "SUPREME".

It's pot-luck as to which they have in stock at any given time.

Try Piccola Locanda place in Los Jardines, they have decent thin-crust pizza and they deliver. Avenida Metropolitana right by the part, next to Sushi-Ya. 809.724.8831

This is what I need for future. Is there decent Chinese food that deliver?

Thanks all with good suggestions on making good crusts or supermarket crusts(DiGiorno). There are times I just want to order in and sit back and watch TV, like yesterday NBA Semi. It will be quite a while until I will be home alone enjoy absolute quietness with TV, Presidente and take-out meal. I just don't feel like cooking anything these days... :p

Chicago pizza is great. But it's "Chicago-style" pizza. For real pizza, you must go to the Northeast US. :glasses:

The funny thing about " Chicago Style" which is another name for "Deep Dish" most people born and raised in Chicago do not eat it. Its manily for tourist and people new to Chicago. NYC pizza is very good, but I do not like triangle slices I prefer my pizza cut into squares. Where in the Northeast? Are you talking about the REAL pizza like with olive oil and basil etc, if you are I do not really like that kind its OK, but I need more GREASE!!! and I associate pizza with beer and a football game.
