Is this new math? Last time I checked, "176,700 million" would equal 176 billion.

HAHA..yeah, i'm not too good in the math department! what i meant to say is that Pakistan has 176 Million people vs 10 Million Dominicans.

Good eye!

When I went to the Social Security office in Lynn, Massachusetts 4 years ago, I was the only one there older than about 25 years old, AND, the ONLY Non-Dominicano!
And, the ONLY English Speaker!
I felt like speaking Spanish so as not to scare the "Applicants" into thinking I was a spy, or confusing the agents!
"Dis Contri Bean Berry Berry Gud Por Me"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come On UP!!!!!!!!

One just has to love your cynicism and hypocrisy.

If they were all indeed Dominicans, they probably needed the help. Hence, the Gringo ruling class in dr1 has already labeled Dominicans as the poorest, non-educated, non-skilled immigrants abroad.

Have you ever considered that they might?ve been just working the system as you do?
He who fathers children nearing retirement age is only asking the US government to support them. This might be the only reason why you could afford to support a village and live a luxury life style in DR.

It is cynical and convenient to claim that non-educated, non-skilled, very young, extremely poor and trapped in an island Dominicans have the smart to prey on well read, highly educated and well-traveled Gringos. I have not bought it, since I first heard it here. The Gringo is the one who does the preying or alluring to his convenience.
This is the classic, scammer being scammed.
If the native had done that when fooled by the Spanish (European) the history books would?ve had a better outcome for the natives.

Way back when, Europeans did not come to US legally. They were offered many opportunities, promises and dreams to come to the US. Once there, they were processed and given their papers. They ventured out just like any other group of immigrants, looking for a better way of live. This is why some claim there is prejudice with the stalled Immigration reform in the US. If the ports were open to the Europeans, why couldn?t there be a comprehensive Immigration reform for Latin America and the Caribbean? Latin American countries have been ransacked and bullied by the US. Why aren?t Latinos allowed in? For anyone who opposes or is fed up with the illegal immigration in the US, I would point out that this is the classic Invader invaded by its victims. The Europeans that oppose to a fair immigration reform and believe that Latinos are from an inferior race, should get better acquainted with history.

For the Non Dominican Latinos and Blacks in this dr1, it is hypocritical and insulting to criticize Dominicans as a group. We share many common bonds. I guess once you are judging others from your high horse, it might be difficult to separate facts from fiction; and reality becomes a little blurred. To be specific, if PR were not a US territory, there would be boat loads of Puerto Ricans illegally trying to reach the DR shores.

As per the projected number of Dominican deaths related to the week of Eastern, that topic is kind of inhumane. But then again, what do I know?
Some of the Gringo?s predictions and tallies on the number of deaths are despicable. This subject is about humans, not animals. Wait!! Let?s not include animals; I keep forgetting that some Gringos value their pets or any other animals more than a Dominican live; case in point, the thread about the horse, a few days ago.

Moderator or whoever has the power to do so, please revoke my dr1 account.
I joined this site because of my interest to learn the current events about the DR.
What I found instead was a Dominican bashing community. I couldn?t help, but find it ridiculous, cynical, hypocritical and bordering racist. If Dominicans aren?t to some of your standards, why are you immersing yourself in their culture? Why do you live in their country if you hate everything Dominican? I haven?t bought, either, that it is because the easily acquired a$$. Misery loves company, doesn?t it?

Because of the constant Dominican assaults, I realized that as a Dominican, there was no added value for me here in this site. One gets tire with same broken record.

I would like to think I am not the type that takes things at heart, but I find myself asking how could I not? I can?t be oblivious to the ill intend and demeaning ways Dominicans are portrayed in this forum. I am not calling for Duartism, but it begs the question why are Dominicans in this forum? This is not a positive exchange of views for us.
You keep asking ?Where is Pichardo?? He got tired of the bull**** and non-sense. Hence, his only fault was to provide a lot of information and post great pictures. I believe his agenda was to portray a positive side of the DR and its people. Whether or not you agreed with his posts, he was an added value to this forum. He drove a lot of traffic and I think that?s what this business is all about.

Thank you all for putting up with my posts. To conclude, I would add that the ?dr1? name was poorly chosen. ?dr1 ? Gringos only? would?ve been more appropriate.

I also remember reading years back that DR was amongst the top in sending remesas back home. That is because many really want no part of the "american dream", they want to reap as many benefits of being in the US as possible so they can send money home and build a house or business back "home".

that is why home ownership among Dominicans is very low in the USA. they mostly rent, and save their money to build back home.

Monfongo, do you have some source to back this up, or did you pull this number out of your you know what?

Gotcha, so, since someone else said something, there is no more need to substantiate one's claim. The obvious, correct, logical system is to simply refer other people to the other guy's statement, NOT TO BACK UP YOUR STATEMENTS. Please, just point me to the study, or the paper or the newspaper report and I will shut up. If all you've got is so and so said something after one too many drinks one time, well, I'm just not buying it.

Great post.

I sometimes wonder what he f@%$ are most of these people doing living in a country they seem to hate. One thing is criticizing the many negative aspects of DR, Dominicans, and Dominican culture, which is something Dominicans themselves do every single day. But here I tend to see people simply bashing DR, Dominicans, and Dominican culture at every chance they get, and is extremely rare to hear these same people say one single positive thing about DR.

I sure as hell wouldn't live, or be interested in a place where I think everyone is dishonest, the culture is crap, and everything sucks, which pretty much summarizes the view that half of the forum has of DR. BTW, I rarely post, but I read most of the threads on the forum, and as a Dominican, the general attitude of most of the members tours DR/Dominicans lately is just disgusting.

gotcha, nothing. nobody "said" anything. the issue was being ventilated here in the forum, and a poster simply copied and pasted the figures issued by the Department of Labor. i am inclined to believe the numbers, for the simple reason that i cannot dispute them with a study of my own. that is how i work. i do not contradict published data unless i have sterling , incontrovertible evidence to the contrary. if the data offends you, go take it up with the statisticians at the department that released the figures. then, to fortify your disagreement, go conduct your own study, and give us your findings. anecdotes do not count. secondly, i said i believe that it was cobraboy who pasted the study. if you are familiar with that poster, you would know that he never makes a statement without substantiating data. say what you will, but he never posts any assertion under the influence of too many drinks. next?

To nas and gurabo.... I can imagine that DR1 can be a frustrating place for an educated Dominican. My husband is a proud Dominican too, but he complains almost as much as the posters here, for many of the same reasons. I think it's a matter of he's allowed to diss Dominicans, but would be as insulted and indignant as you both are if an 'outsider' painted all Dominicans with the same broad brush.

I think the Dominicans who post on DR1 are invaluable, and I hope you all continue to post, and to identify yourself as Dominicans because:
1. You give a perspective that many posters here will never have
2. You prove there are articulate and educated bi-lingual Dominicans
3. You may be the only positive Dominican 'relationship' some here will have.
4. And mostly because from time to time some of our posters need a good kick-in-the-butt to remind them they are guests in the DR, and they should cut down on the bashing and get out there and enjoy what this beautiful island has to offer.

My mother in law who is US citizen now tried a while to convince us to immigrate to NY. First she mentioned was what one all gets for free from the Government...

There maybe some truth in what you say but basically I think you are full of it. I don't belive you have a friend that has access to statistics that have Dominicans as the number one scam artist country. For one they don't even come close to the scams that East Indians and Pakistanis have. In Canada the Lebanese are considered the number one scam artist country. If the DR was that highly rate the number of VISAs issued would dy up, it hasn't, it has actually grown.

I believe all the middle eastern countries are scammers here, they come here by the boat loads claim bogus refugee status and live off our money while we work. Tell me when have you ever seen a middle eastern women at work here, in a factory or anywhere where you actually have to work. Nowhere. "The men won't let them" or some stupid excuse. Than they try and convert everyone here to their culture... what happened to saying Merry Christmas ??? Someone get offended... ugh...

I use to work at a currency exchange and see these people come in with GROCERY bags filled with $10-$20 000 USD to exchange into Canadian dollars and than the next day I see them waiting outside the line at the local food bank for free food.

Canadian immigration is a joke, those who want to come here and are skilled and would work hard for a living are refused but if you're lazy, dont speak a lick of English and refuse to work - welcome to Canada.

I could go on and on....

please go on and on. also, please give us a list of these middle eastern countries. finally, when you cast your brush, remember that some of us here have either spent considerable time in Canada, or have family living there, and might have a different take on things.

It's obvious that they get FOX News in Canada.
