This is a paradox...prostitutes need to eat and feed their kids. Often, their money goes to more then just feeding their children--it often goes to helping their parents out as well. Their is no easy answer here. The DR has no infrastructure to help and financially supoort women. You why you never see Norwegian prostitutes? Because their is infrastructure here...women get help and financial support from the government if the man is unable to. Women here get a monthly stipend for the first few years of the babies life to help pay for diapers, clothes, and added expenses. They get full paid while their off work for the first year. They get help with daycare as well.
Now contrast this with third world countries where women are left to defend for themselves...in the DR, women get no financial help, prenatal care, or medication or financial support. Women are left on their own here, and so are their babies. If Norway had the same system as the DR, I could look out the window right now and see dozens of Scandinavian prostitutes. Instead, all I see here are African and East Bloc prostitutes--themselves a product of terrible infrastructure governments who offer no support or infrastructure for their women or their babies.
The problem and the blame for prostitution, in my opinion, is not the women--the women are the victims of poor government--its the lack of infrastructure and government policies. If third world countries were more like scandinavian countries, you would not have the problem that you see now.
Instead of blaming women for their lack of resources and opportunities, blame the government. The women are the victims of a gross lack of social and financial support. And this tired argument about women need to learn to keep their legs closed is not the answer. Look at other third world countries where religion has an immense power and influence over their populations--I.e--pakistan, nigeria, afghanistan, Middle East, India, etc.--they have huge families with children unable eat properly, suffering malnutition, and going hungry.
So the problem is not that women are just spreading their legs and are behaving badly, the problem is that our instincts for hundreds of thousands of years is to breed and procreate. Its in our genes, its in our blood, and its in our fiber and instincts. Humans will never stop breeding and having sex. All you can do is offer women the infrastructure and financial support, and the opportunity and choices to manage the size of their families. And of course, this ignoring completely the responsibilties that men have as well. But the choices and support should be with the women first and foremost. Focus on that and education, and everything else will fall in place just like it has here in Scandinavia and northern Europe.
