I have to say, the Brits seem to be leading the field in terms of making funny safety announcements. Thomson Airways, one of the UK's biggest charter airlines has a safety video which is performed by kids, it's really good, I love the bit where she does the shimmy. And people are evidently more likely to listen to it because it's funny.

Another British airline, Virgin, has also got some good safety videos. The Virgin Atlantic one is a trip through characters in films:

And Virgin America has a safety dance, love the robot rap...

I feel sorry for you lt......
Sorry but flight attendants that think because they have a captive audience they now can have a comedy act are not funny but also kind of sad. If I want to see comedy it won't be at 35,000 feet.

Then I recommend you don't fly on Southwest. When I lived in California, I used Southwest frequently and many of their flight attendants provide a comic approach to the otherwise very boring safety instructions at the beginning of the flight. One even managed to sing a passable version of Cheryl Crow's "All I wanna do"... Despite being a budget airline, I never had a problem flying with them because everyone had a great attitude.

Being budget is no longer true, as their fares many times are same or even higher than those of legacy carriers. Both Southwest and Jetblue have been moving upmarket in recent years and it's the only solution to fight off raising labor costs. Jetblue is moving upmarket faster than Southwest (e.g. Jetblue mint), but SW is in steady irreversible upmarket trend as well.

The "new" budget airlines of today are Spirit, Frontier and Allegiant.

But you are correct about a "great attitude", the "Southwest Spirit".

When I flew we were called flight attendants (stewardess before my time). Now cabin crew seems to be the more "appropriate" term. I always use to wonder when giving the safety speech what would happen to the 75% (more or less) of passengers who weren't paying attention if the plane ran into a problem. Those passengers not paying attention could easily be the reason you (the one paying attention) may not survive. I know everyone has heard the safety speech over and over but honestly it will come in handy if you need it. The very first thing I do when I get on a plane is count the seat backs forward and backward to the nearest exit. Because unfortunately the cabin crew may be busy helping those who didn't pay attention remember what to do so I may be on my own. I give the guy a lot of credit (or anyone) that can grab the attention of a plane load of passengers for a quick few minutes on something that might save their life. Sorry I will get off my soap box now...it is just a big pet peeve of mine.

I don't pay attention because if and when we run into problems, we'll be lucky if they even find the plane :bunny:But by any means, sue me and my descendants if you survive and wake up in Malaysia :)

It s not rocket science, once you listened to the speech one time.

Years go at one of the places where I worked they decided to do a mock evacuation
but prior to that we went through a series of drills on what to do in case of an
emergency.

Well, one day they decided to test us and announced that there was a fire. You should
have seen the people, me included that ran out the door like a bullet, and some were
getting ready to jump out the window when they could not get through the door.

The supervisors were the first ones out! lol! Talk about don't panic?!?!?!? In an
emergency protocol goes out the window.

i paid attention to the safety chat on my first flight and came to the conclusion that in case of emergency it will either be a dog eats dog situation or everyone will die all the same. because of my motion sickness i am knocked out cold anyways, i have been known to sleep through take off and landing.

Reminds me of when they made an announcement in my building at work that there was an alarm on another floor being investigated to stay put....needless to say, I stayed put outside while they investigated.
