I was always told to avoid Miami airport at all cost.

On a side note, on a 3.5 hr direct flight, I just can't bring myself to make a connection. In the best case scenario, it doubles the trip time, not even for 280 dollars (call me spoiled :) )

I agree - for years we drove to JFK to get a direct flight, but once AA stopped that we started United out of Newark.

If a family of 4 or 6 is flying, a couple of hundred each makes a difference.

During my prime vacation times, I would look forward to offering my seat for my next trip. One time I received a $600.00 credit voucher. ;)

Not worth the price when you have to connect with another flight and the weather conditions happening this summer. Chances are you flights will get messed up. Bite the bullet and fly direct. There are a ton of direct flights from Newark to SD . Penny wise and pound foolish is not fun when you are flying.

I don't know if I would fly AA to the DR again if it was free.. The connections I had last time were so close, I was diverted both coming and going instead of arriving in Hartford on Sat afternoon, I ended up in Boston on noon on Sunday, another 60 miles away from my final destination and I had to take a three hour Greyhound to get home. We got into Miami around 6PM the night before which was also not on the itenerary.

Actually United is the only airline that flies direct to SD from EWR and they only have one flight a day.

It's seasonal. Sometimes there are two flights per day. Ive found that flying into SD is usually much cheaper than Puerto Plata. Add another 1500 pesos or so (each way) for taxi and MetroBus, and you still come out ahead (but four hours behind) :)-)

United's new service from Newark to Santiago has also been a hundred or more cheaper than Puerto Plata so far. Lets home it stays that way.

United will double the flights the last three weeks of December for the Christmas holidays. They also used to double up June and July for Dominicans returning home for the summer but this year they cut that out.

Newark to Santiago is new and not really new. United (Continental) always had flights to Santiago but cut them out about five years ago.

Actually I would love to see Jet Blue start flying non-stop out of EWR with an afternoon flight.
