Guys, relax. Poor Dominican Government officials. They tried to tax shipments under $200, but the court rejected that. They tried to charge RD$500 for traffic accident reports, but the court said that's illegal too. So let them do something successfully finally, let them ban Miley Cyrus concert. Those guys need to show they are important, give them a chance.

brilliant!!

She gets a mountain of publicity and saves herself a trip to the D.R. (during hurricane season, to boot) I mean look....there are all ready 11 pages on a forum of folks who really couldn't care less about her. I assume her publicist has paid off the appropriate officials in the government here.

Hypocrites!!

This is a country where the mothers encourage the grinding, twerking and sim sex dances from 5 yr olds.

You are confusing african dance rhythms with sexual behavior. It's just different than in cold anglo-ish countries. Children aren't compartmentalized and romanticized like in Anglo culture heavily influenced of shame. Keep the piano legs hidden, but schtump the maid in the back stairwell. Fantiasize that children are little angels and ignore child labor five year olds crawling around looms. Its called a double standard, and we all are guilty of it. I note a healthy dose here on DR1.

the music world is screwed man.. these "acts" are groomed from childhood to adulthood and people still think they have some actual talent.. They see someone doing something screwy and think it's "unique" when it's just an act that's prescribed to them. I went to a small venue in Miami where cultura profetica, popcaan, and a couple other good reggae/dancehall acts and although it had a decent outing, the people didn't even know who the musicians were :(

Can i get a shout out for menudo? The original pre-packaged boy band. Just line em up. Doesn't matter which one is out front.

If you're not the loudest, the nastiest or the most outrageous...
Well...You're just a nobody these days.
You want attention, work for it sucker.
Whether we're talking about the music business, media (radio, t.v., and internet), or political punditry or yes, even politicians.
Cyrus, Bieber, Nugent, Limbaugh, Levine, Hannity, Coulter, Palin, West, Cruz.......
This is just off the top of my Sunday morning head and should not be, by any means, considered an exhaustive list. (;))
Anyway ..
It is the American way.
Everybody is a star.
They'll die to get there.
It is their constitutional right.

I must say Mr. CCCCC...
For someone who is always going on about OPA's.....(other peoples' agendas),
You sure are putting your's front and centre.

If I have somehow misconstrued the meaning of your comment,
My apologies.

Miley's popularity

I wonder if Miley sold enough tickets to allow the show to go on without a financial loss. If she didn't, the international publicity she is getting is a brilliant alternative to the usual "scheduling conflict/illness/security concern" excuses promoters use when they have to get their insurance to rescue them from poor ticket sales. "Banned in Boston" is a very old promotional ploy. It might have nothing to do with that at all but I have an easier time believing almost anything except Miley's act offending local sensibilities. I think a re-enactment of Caligula would be the starting point for something to offend.

Thanks dv8. That picture is worth a thousand words. But they are children. It's just not sexual. Like when cousins and siblings sleep together and bathe together. Mind you, i don't like seeing little girls dressed up like tarts. But i just dont think ut gives the average person a woody to see these kids dancing. Thats the difference.

whether it gives anyone a hard on is irrelevant. the kids copy behaviour of adults. it is sexual. by the age of 12 most will already start sexual life and by the age of 13 many of those girls will be pregnant already.

Actually, when evaluating pictoral art the effect it has on the viewer is precisely how something is determined to be obscene. Venus de milo in a clam shell doesn't generally inspire sexual feelings. Kids jumping up and down clowning imitations of their parents and other adults wont cause a sexual response in adults unless the person is a pedophile.

Now clearly little miss cyrus is selling her sexuality. Overtly. Just a little strip if cloth makes it not obscene.

I have purposely forced myself to watch a couple of youtubes of the young lady. Not my cup of tea. The banning of MC clearly is a matter of double standard. Its just that such double standards dont surprise me when i see them, nor the reactions of people who try to deny them. Not you, Dv8. General observation.

There has been much speculation on radio talk shows that it was a case of tickets not selling as expected.

I don't think that's the point. My neighbour of mid 20's, is a grandmother to a 10 year old daughter (and proud)! It's not sexual? Doesn't get much more sexual than pregnant!
