the fact that there is not such a failsafe in La Sirena is what makes me hesitant to accept that this happened. i know it did. i just cannot accept the idea that people can be so birdbrained.

I was reminded that I was in the DR when and how this happened. I didn't expect it obviously but now I think people will, unfortunately. I saw the Manager open many boxes whilst I was waiting for my incident to be dealt with. Finally when more white collared workers turned up one guy had to describe the contents of his bag... two old tshirts lol. Well done for saving the theft of the tshirts lol.

it appears that the La Sirena people were in on the stealing of your stuff. describing the contents is just too fundamental a tactic to leave out of the process. the fact that someone later on requested it tells me all i need to know. they robbed you, deliberately.

Where do you normally spend your time?

Here LOL but when things are "normal" for a least a week I forget where I am. And then ...dun...dun...dun...the uniqueness of DR Life raises it's ugly head and I have a wake up call. Only joking I do like it here but I just wanted to point out the latest scenario that happened to me and safeguard others against it.

i run scenarios through my mind on this, none of them good. i can imagine you with something valuable to you in that box, believing it to be safe and protected, only to find that some nitwit has given it away to some chopo, who probably has no idea what he just stole.

Idiotic Playgirl

I would demand that at the least the idiot who opened the boxes should be fired

Once employed, idiots don't get fired easily here.
Mind you, she might be the manager's playgirl, too. :bunny:

A normal person would ask for the contents of the box, or even better ask the time when the box was used and review the security footage. Also a note that lost key is charged 500 pesos or something, for the trouble of reviewing the security footage. But this is the DR where it is frequently hard to find thinking people.

This Right here, cosign..
I find it also almost unbelieveable (not against the OP 's Claim which I believe also 100% ) but that THE STORE and employee would not have a specific Procedure they needed to follow to make sure the claimant at least describes the Items in detail.. and as you said in case of the Laptop, OPEN it, with the password, and describe it to a T, in fact DEMAND the claimant prove it with a Document or picture in the laptop.. that should be a piece of cake for the real owner.

The fact that this woman employee can then just SMILE about it without an oz of Shame or Guilt ?,. proves she is either Complicit, or just to way beyond incompetent..
but it does not surprise me that the store does nothing..they are clueless dumb arses , its sick how awful Dominicans can be at their "job".. no matter how small the task.

she was laughing because she knows that nothing will come of it. the OP is a foreigner, and has very little ability to apply downforce.

think of this...think of how many unattractive, overweight women you see working in department stores. not too many. i agree that the average Dominican woman is a nice looking creature, but there is a large fraction of lardasses out there. they are not getting a job in these stores. the girls who get the jobs have to be attractive to the management guys, or it is a no go.

the guy who is banging this particular girl will make sure she stays. that is why she can afford to laugh it off.

Go to the police and file charges with accusation of accessory to commit theft - complicidad de robo (against the employee that opened the box). Not against La Sirena, but against the person herself. You will see how fast things will start moving. Simply claim what is said here, that she was on it, because normal person would not just release the content. So do not go against La Sirena, even though they might ultimately be responsible for it, but go against the easier target, the employee. At the end, her employee insurance might kick in (if she did it because of stupidity), or might actually start talking (if she was on it).

And because you file criminal charges against her personally, she would need to lawyer up (out of her own pocket) or our of the pocket of that manager who might be banging her. And even if they go to try to pay people off for this to go away, they will spend money... not the store's money, their own money. In the DR you can also ask for monetary damages (compensation) with criminal complaint.

i agree 100%. she must have been in on it, because a 10 year old child would have requested some indication that the items belonged to the guys who claimed to have lost the access code.

I don't think the lady with the key was complicit. I think that she was nervous and out of her depth. When I explained that she had given our stuff away she didn't look too happy and she kept telling me to wait till the boss turned up.
I don't think that they get robbed much as they changed their behaviour in front of us when an old guy needed his box opened and they made him say what was in his bag.
I wish that I had got the other guy's number so that he could have explained things for us. My Spanish is pretty bad.
There are no security cameras covering this area also.

funny how they knew the correct approach when the other guy showed up. trust me, there are training programs at La Sirena. that is the most basic of things to be demanded...proof that you own the stuff you are claiming.
