By the way, we got the pavement work re-started on the other side of the street, just before the election (it was suppose to finish before election day but never did due to rain) - the cynics then said that was because that would look good for the incumbent mayor.
So some things can be done, but not others.
A drug dealing pimp would have been a better fit for the mayor of Sosua, too bad Willie, maybe next time.
The majority of the businesses did want it kept closed. It was overruled by higher dictators.
She does not have the final say. Council does and those 7 people voted to have the street reopened because Jose for the Photo Place is head of council and he wanted it reopened.

I know some of my posts can be quite lengthy. To be totally candid, some of what I share here on DR1 are excerpts that are condensed and heavily edited versions of what I observe here, but record and document elsewhere. My original archives are much longer and contain broader detail as their intended audience, while familiar with the Dominican Republic in general, are not familiar with the intricacies of the North Coast and more specifically Sos?a. And so, the necessary editing, to be more concise at addressing the specific topics here.
I am currently in the very fortunate position of being fairly compensated for my time spent working with both Dominicans and foreigners here on the north coast. At times this allows me priviliged access to those very same Dominicans and foreigners, and puts me in the unique position to both interact with and observe them in an environment in which many cannot. And along with my obligation to accurately and responsibly document these interactions under certain strict standards, it also allows me to candidly comment here on DR1 with a little more objectivity but no less accountability. Well, maybe a little less, nobody on DR1 can fire me.

Fortunately for business' in that section, the bulk of the work was completed about two weeks later. It was strictly cosmetic stuff since then.
As an unimportant side note, the rain really didn't appear to hamper the project much at all. The lack of labor became a big issue early on.
