Your WW3 analogy is weak and foolish.

When I post that PC will be closed again it's because the closing is IMMINENT, not because it is something that will PROBABLY happen far off in the future.

You are absolutely correct, seven of them voted to reopen the street, and this very same issue will again come before seven new town council members. And just so that we are crystal clear, here they are:

Radhames Guzman (PLD/PRD)
Lilian Ceballos (PLD/PRD)
Oscar Luis Gomez (PLD/PRD)
Juan Arismendy Medina (PRSC)
Aquilina Medina (PRSC)
Yinette Vallejo (PRSC)
Fabio Ramon Garcia (PRM)

These are the seven new town council members who will be voting on the issues now, along with Vice Mayor Gerardo Cespedes and Mayor Ilana Neumann. Being a business owner in Sos?a perhaps you should get to know them. I know most of them personally and several for many years. I'll give you a head start.

Radhames Guzman is an attorney who lives and has an office in Sos?a. He is one of Ilana Neumann's strongest supporters and close friend. His office is not far from the center of PC and would certainly welcome any input from business owners in Sos?a.

Oscar Luis Gomez or "Lupy" as he is know to his friends, is the head of the "cuerpo de bomberos" and is in charge of coordinating the demolition of "La Roca" restaurant. He lives in Los Charamicos and is more than happy to speak to anyone regarding his duties. He was the person who informed me about the planned demolition.

Arismendy Medina who works closely with the "Samaritan Foundation" constructing housing for some of Sos?a's less fortunate residents in Maranatha, Bella Vista, Villa Manuel, Villa Betania, etc. is a former mayor of Sos?a and is very approachable.

Aquilina Mediina, a former candidate for mayor herself in 2010, lives in La Union and was actively involved in the construction of the new park and basketball court at the entrance to La Union. She has advocated for several projects in La Union and VIlla Liberaci?n and can be found most days working right there.

Yinette Vallejo, the daughter of Dr. Tito Sierra who is an attorney and former regidor of Sos?a, is also an attorney focusing on immigration law. She just opened her office on the second floor of Sunset Plaza, practically on top of the old D'Latin Drink disco and less than 25 meters from your restaurant. I've know her since she was a small child and her family for many years. Perhaps you should walk over to her office and introduce yourself.

Fabio Garcia's television program "Detras del Rumor" is quite famous here on the north coast, you can communicate with him just about anytime directly through his "Detras del Rumor" website or his facebook pages.

These are the people who will be making many of the decisions here in Sos?a starting August 16. I suggest meeting at least a few of them.

I have no idea what you are referring to that I have "reported has happened in the past with no real impact on Sos?a". Maybe you could be more specific (less vague).

You state that "mayor Neumann did the same thing when she was elected the first time around"
She hasn't done ANYTHING yet. Her new term officially starts in about a month on August 16, give her a chance

In her first term she was not from the same political party as the government in charge in Santo Domingo, she was PRD they were PLD, her "hands were tied." Now things are different. There are also directives that come directly from Santo Domingo that she neither has any advance knowledge of or control over. Your opinion of her as a "yes person" is just that, your opinion, perhaps you could share what you base it on.

We are both foreigners in Sos?a and perhaps have been here for about the same amount of time. Apparently I have taken better advantage of my time here, getting to personally know most of the people involved in local politics and most of the owners of the larger and more successful foreign owned businesses as well as most of the local business owners and workers.

My many years working closely with these people and gaining their trust, respect and friendship has afforded me the opportunity to understand and participate with them on a level that most people simply cannot.

So when I post that

I have a greater knowledge and understanding of what actually goes on here than YOU can possibly fathom.

It is for one reason,

I DO.

I'm not trying to impress anyone.

I am very familiar with most of those people on the new board. No need to introduce myself. Oscar is a good friend and my contact list is lengthy. No need to argue that your knowledge and understanding is greater than mine as you don't know me nor I know you. If you wish to think that, then that is your prerogative. I am very well respected in the community.

I no longer own my restaurant but now have another business on the street. The street being opened or closed has no affect on my new business but I do see the closure to be beneficial to the residents.

than units available.

I was sorry to hear that Casa 21 has been sold. That was one of the "go to" restaurants in Sosua for higher end tourists. It was always full to capacity. Other than that, there are only a limited number of restaurants in Sosua providing good meals consitently, not high end, but a bit above bar food with some atmosphere.

When did Casa 21 sell?

As someone who has lived in Cabarete full time since 2003 and rented apartments to tourists, there was and has been a drop in tourism since I arrived. The mains reasons as I see them are the ridiculous charges to fly into Puerto Plata, the development and promotion and rapid growth in Punta Cana, the closing of hotels and instead the sales of condos which are very often empty, and the generally poor economic conditions in the world. As the non-whore monger crowd diminishes, the whore-monger crowd who still finds a motive to go to Sosua is a more significant percentage of the total number of tourists.

Sosua is not immune from those very same influences.

I suggest the main reasons for a decline in tourism, both in Sosua and Cabarete, are one in the same. Of course my suggestion, if true, minimizes the argument of those who feel they are the saviors of those women in the worlds oldest profession, and indeed the entirety of Sosua. One word to them. The government does not care about this point, even if it has truth.

Now: Everything in Sosua was closed a midnight last night?

Exactly ! your reasoning's are spot on because you are here 365.

I might also add that once Punta Cana took off the Resorts and Hotel Chains that were existing here lost interest in there NC properties and let the properties deteriorate if not like you said close them outright.

Welcome to Acapulco/Puerto Vallarta....:smoke:....soon to be Margarita Island.....get out now

It still amazes me that from the President to the Tourism minister down have not dealt with this purposely inflated airport taxes in the POP airport. This is correctable and just further shows the ignorance of politicians and business owners on so many levels in this country. Business would rather fail than demand change! It even takes a gringo(Leon Alter) to initiate a proper fight against crime and educating people that throwing garbage on your beaches doesnt increase tourism. You can keep building new schools filled with inept teachers, very little education from home. Yet the Pichardos/Virgos continue to praise the positive advances in the DR. I will not argue there has been many positive advances but ignoring the blatant flaws is ridiculous.
You can have the best steak house in New york city, but if the cook has a dogg that ****s on the floor and nobody cares to clean up the turd, it doesnt matter how good your steaks are. Thats the DR, start cleaning up the low hanging turds before bragging about the good!!!!!! Sorry rant over....

Certainly reports that "everything is closed until further notice" needs some confirmation and explanation if true.

My take is simple, having seen many many crackdowns over the years:

"This too shall pass"

I don't think the police can ever clean up Sosua of whores and their pimps, they are too corrupt and make money from these people to do it (why kill the golden goose...).

And a clean, un-corrupted police force here is a long long time away....

RV429, Uzin and others of little "faith" that Sosua will be cleaned up. I don't blame you at all for your doubts.

But perhaps, there is much more determination than before. Let us see if they start doing next what I think they will.

That is arresting the Johns.
