I still say for that sidewalk to be fixed , the right palms have to be greased... simple as that and until it happens it will remain that way.
And I don't think the Mayor gives a rats arse about anyone hurting themselves in the meantime nor is she making any type of statement at this point.
imo, She is not the Angel she portrays herself to be however.

Any other timeline or scenario just makes no sense at all and would be Childish feuding at best.

The Sosua 10K run was Sunday.

For that, the Mayor managed to get every pot-hole on the route, filled with concrete and Her Picture-Fence-Sign over it, to show it was the Mayor who did it.

But, for the Rumba side walk......... nothing.

Someone should ?relocate? the construction signs (with the Mayor Picture) and put them in front of Rumbas, so she can claim responsibility.
or
Maybe she should close Pedro Clisante and we can walked down the street?

Oops.... she did that, and those nasty merchants (the ones she never talks to) cut the barricades.

Please Mayor... not everyone loves Jazz, and can afford over priced drinks a Playa Alicia (both at not well attended)

Strange thing is, prostitution is legal in the DR. This is a war on citizens.

I think it would be better to state that the basic act of a person prostituting their person in itself is not illegal rather than categorically state it is legal.....unless you know otherwise. The act of the person using a willing adult prostitutes services is also probably not illegal. But beyond that I doubt if much is clear.

Enjoy the uncertainty whilst it continues. Persons/businesses abetting prostitution in any conceivable way need to think carefully in the current climate.

IMHO, they should turn the community at the other end of the beach to a chika friendly abode. Businesess can open and as long as they are not directly profiting (ie, a brothel) they won't be harassed and closed.

Btw,i disagree on sex tourism. The government has bigger fish to fry with all there issues on exchange currency that they'd be foolish to dwell on a limiting hard currency stream.

Regarding the sex tourism, the past Attorney General came out in print against it. *Not sure if the new guy has the same stand, but I suspect nothing has changed from the central government on their stand against sex tourists. *Otherwise we would all see a softening on that position. *Are we seeing such a softening?*

Talk is cheap. Don't get wrong, I realize the human toll this takes but... Until the per capita income is raised to the point that the income from prostitution isn't needed for many families survive and the macro exchange problems are what they are, I don't see this going anywhere. There's too much incentive to fail.

And, that's before you consider how deeply engrained prostitution is to the local culture. It goes back to Taino culture and probably the dawn of human existence.

That and the cognitive dissonance that reigns supreme in Dominican culture. I've heard such gems such as "I never have sex with anybody I don't want to so how is that prostitution?". Um,... Exchange of money. "Oh, that... Just a gift". This from somebody that supports an extended family and children on her single source of income.

There you have it, the attorney general can claim success.

They don't call it the world's oldest profession for nothing. *

The "success" the government wants is to make prostitution "as invisible as possible" so that urban renewal money will be available.*

Today the AHNVEE Resort is having their employment fair in the Sos?a Bay Convention Center. As I was leaving for work this morning I passed by. At 8:00am, one hour before the opening, there were more than 200 people in a line wrapping around the building.

They have also started their advertising campaign, their billboards are appearing from Cabarete to Puerto Plata to Navarette.

You just happened to be passing by at 8am on a Saturday morning with your camera? Good catch on the billboard signs while your were driving. Why don't you post a link to their youtube promotional video as well?

Are there any pre-bookings for January for this all-inclusive resort? With all these road signs, does this all-inclusive resort expect to attract a lot of people from the surrounding area and Puerto Plata to go to a 5-star resort here? What is the cost of a room at this 5-star all-inclusive resort going to be per night?

Love seeing the Maine lobster on all the billboards and online website. The ad copy said the lobsters will be from their very own lobster pond. I challenge the lobster will from Maine (or Canada in deference to my Canadian friends). The other bit of ad hyperbole is "the only 5 star in Sosua". I'm certain the folks at the Gansevoort would disagree!

not trying to be an arse .. but HOW exactly does one become a 5 Star Resort BEFORE even opening the Doors ?
I always thought it was a Rating system, based on experiences and Reviews..

Is this not like a Restaurant just being built , with a billboard out font stating " Best Restaurant in town,, coming soon" .

Is the Gansevoort an all inclusive?

Amateur website, poor navigation and lack of information. Not a good representation of what they want their perception to be,especially being a 5 star. Minus 1. I do find the billboards nice and clean and easy to read. The point gets across. Plus 1.
Anxious to see more of their marketing come to life. I'm still skeptical.
