The Mayor makes all the Bars close in their fronts, and didn't allow unaccompanied young women to enter.

Why...?
So ?Families? won't see the Mongers/Chicas interactions.

Did it work...?
No! The Mongers/Chicas all ended up on the street in plain view.

Now.. It's time to do the same thing.

If the Mongers/Chicas can't find a place to sit, they will either end up on the street in plain view, or at another Bar/Restaurant on the strip.

Can someone honestly say the ?no tables on the sidewalk? will in any way, help clean up the strip.

Personally... I see this as a way to financially punish a few select Bars.

OMG , why can't they send the filthy punters to Panty Flojo already and make that The New Sosua?
Willy can set up shop and we can close this thread.

That would put a lot of posters out of business. And where is Panty Flojo?

I saw this today

If the Municipality?s priority is to remove prostitution from Sosua, well then they have seriously failed!

With all the past actions by Police in chasing, arresting, extorting, and quickly releasing the ladies in the streets, clubs and bars ? all they have actually managed to do, is to chase away most of the more well behaved and classier ladies. The actual numbers of ladies in the nightlife is still the same, but now we notice a rougher and far more street smart bunch. These current ladies are not afraid to encounter the daily game of ?cat and mouse? with the Police. Also more crime and nasty experiences have been afflicted onto tourists and these ladies are far more pushy and full of scams, than ladies were 5-10 years ago, according to what many expats and repeat visitors inform us.

The only way to reverse this influx of hard-core street girls, is for the government and municipality to fire their corrupt Police staff, and introduce the concept of real ?law enforcement?, rather than the ongoing ?law abuse? currently happening. How can the Government expect to retain pleasant ladies, guys, and vendors in tourist towns, if they scare them away? ? then all we?ll be left with if the hard-core street people!

If the Government was willing to look outside their own country and learn from others, then there are many beach and tourist towns where ladies, guys and vendors mostly behave themselves, especially due to ethical yet firm law enforcement being present, and a desire among most to please and protect the tourists. This way prostitution will happen without being pushed on people like we see from the current desperate ladies, but instead in a way where no one should worry about it? Also remember that prostitution is legal here, so why do they instruct their Police to illegally chase these poor ladies in public? This aggravates tourists to watch such aggression and it stops them returning with their money!

When there?s consequences for stealing and blackmailing tourists, then the ?rat bags? of society will go elsewhere or think twice before trying to victimize tourist coming here with their hard earned money! If ?correct? law enforcement was implemented, then we should attract a more ethical class of locals, vendors, and over time much more tourists, and everyone will win!

Proverb: *?It?s much more effective to help people into happiness, than trying to beat them into betterment!?

Someone thinks there is a War on Whores..

"Firing the corrupt police staff" happens periodically. *The news sources can use the same article they have used a dozen times before and just change the names of those fired. It makes no difference, since they are replaced by an equivalent staff. The corrections stated above can never come to be by replacing the police. It is what it is.*

This would not surprise me. I imagine that they are mobile and/or don't mind taking some time off while the latest "effort" (insert catchy slogan like "take back the streets", "Sosua for families", "Putas in las fundas", or whatever) runs its course.

Heavy policing in a highly profitable enterprise generally leads to smarter, better organized crime.

Well, here is a little feedback from us, those living here for a while and going out to eat and drink regularly - not the ones who never visit this town but always have a lot of ideas and opinions.

Walking down the street the last week or so, with some bars closed and no tables allowed outside for some bars, we noticed those bars in question are quite full, we wondered how they are going to cope with the high season, with more tourist coming (almost double or triple the numbers now), where are they going to sit or drink (aka, spend their money... !?). Or is it the plan to get rid of them in this way from these particular bars/area (ingenious !)

Another observation was that those other bars and restaurants around town (specially those allowed to have tables outsides) now are flooded with mongers and their chicas, sitting on their laps, smoking that horrible cigar when you want to eat, basically occupying seats for chatting, talking loud about subjects even I get embarrassed to hear, living here for so long. I don't know if any so called family or couples can put up with that...

This is of course is the direct result of restriction on the ground-zero, the so called red-light district area, as night comes after day it was obvious that if you squeeze this crowd in that place they will scatter around the town - no need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out - unless you are in charge of running Sosua...!

I don't know if this was the desired result they were after, but as I have always mentioned, it is best if this phenomena is contained, controlled and managed (in a small area downtown or somewhere else). When are they going to learn from 6 years of failure...or is it 7 now !?

(P.S. Also for the day time, again more and more of these actions above are moving to the beach, also partly because they can not sit where they used to... a bit like disturbing the wasps nests - not a good idea !)

It works great if you're a criminal.

In this case (and I need to stipulate that the chikas are not criminals), but the street smart chikas remaining don't need to deal with the competition from the sweet, classy young women. Profits are up as well as extra funds for bribery, pay offs, and such. Once the problem takes root, it really tough to dig out.

The government is not concerned about sex tourists. *The government has made it clear they do not want sex tourists which have recently made up about 70% of Sosua's tourists. So I have been told by those in the know in this thread.

That is not good.

The sausage effect of prohibition on display in plain sight.

We have been back in Sosua now for three days. We spent the afternoons on the beach and the evenings at home.
Twice on the Beach... “a Lady” just sat at our table with us. Never spoke. She was not invited.
This is new.

At least a half dozen “Ladies” walked out of their way to walk by our table.
Again... this is new.

I know I am handsome (for a retired old fart) but... I was sitting with my Wife.

The Mayor is changing the game.
The Mongers are still coming.
The Chicas definitely more determined.

And about the “sidewalk” in front of Rumbas.....

This is where we walk to get to the Beach.
This is not Retired Couples (with money) friendly.
PLEASE fix it up.

Obviously the Mayor drives everywhere, and sees this at a statement, but my old ankles don't agree!!!

IMHO, they should turn the community at the other end of the beach to a chika friendly abode. Businesess can open and as long as they are not directly profiting (ie, a brothel) they won't be harassed and closed.

Btw,i disagree on sex tourism. The government has bigger fish to fry with all there issues on exchange currency that they'd be foolish to dwell on a limiting hard currency stream.
