A local Sosua character who has had involvement with a restaurant, several bars and a disco over the past few years. He is known for being a bit of a drunkard, having a rather nasty disposition at times and constantly bumping up against city hall.

If you look at her Facebook Cerise Fairfax, she’s a daily Tarot card, horoscope, Aura Reader.... also soul
Coach....
This might be the first time in history that a Dominican has been scammed by a gringo.
Gino, her boyfriend would’ve been better off still working as a cook at Flip flops.

Every time I search "Sosua" on YouTube I get her videos, annoying. Since she's a card reader and a fortune teller she should've seen at least a month into the future. Hopefully she has a pension or something so she can continue living in DR, she looks very happy being here.

Aldiana and Dream City problems

I have heard rumors that both Aldiana and Dream City have problems. Shut down before they even finished.

Aldiana was going to import products from outside of the country to help complete work at the old Sol De Plata location, where they have been "Coming Soon" for many months. I heard that the cost for importing the goods was too high and now the entire project has been cancelled.

Dream City, I read, was selling property that they did not own. Property that was owned by a Dominican Bank, Banreservas, I thinkg. So they were told to stop selling. That would prevent them from doing any work, if I am not mistaken.

Anyone confirm these two places are now shut down and the reasons are what I heard?

Cabarete
I haven't seen any sign of activity at the Aldiana Resort in Cabarete for months. Looks to me like renovation has stopped(?).

I know there was a law suit with Dream City. A local lawyer made a mistake and it cost his family dearly. They had to sell many of their assets to resolve the problem. Thank God this was kept quiet, as this is a very good Dominican family in Sosua. People who have nothing but kindness and generosity in their hearts.

This is all very sad. As a property owner, I want all new projects to succeed, especially those that provide Sosua with hope of a future.

I live next to Ganesvort. It has blocked its entrance with sheets of metal. I must assume it is closed. It suffered a lot of damage in last year's storm and never had the clientele that they book at their other resorts.

Let's hope that this winter's tourist season gives a good boost to local businesses and development. I must say, the road traffic has increased substantially and the parking lot at Playero is always full. So there are people coming. And that is a good sign.

I think.

The Ganesvoort website states:

Ganesvoort Website said:
Effective October 1, 2018, the resort formerly known as Gansevoort Dominican Republic is no longer associated with Gansevoort Hotel Group or part of its real estate portfolio. We will continue to serve our valued guests at our Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC property and Gansevoort Turks + Caicos property.

Lindsey.....you couldn't be more accurate. These last several weeks are a dramatic change from what was experienced June through September. Here's to a successful high season for Sosua.

Curious, Is there an increase in the # of SNOWBIRDS, or Expats .. ie LONGER term Visitors ... ?
Or is the bump more of people ( single and couples) who are coming for their week or 2 of vacation time ?

All of the above.

Yes, the project as I understand it for Aldiana has been abandoned because of cost overruns with the cost to import goods they wanted to finish the project being what stopped the project for good. That is what was on the local news. I was just looking for additional confirmation.

Slowly, over time, more houses are being built in various north coast projects. Most of them are being purchased by either full time residents from outside the DR or snowbirds. There is no doubt there are fewer short term tourists visiting the north coast.

I suspected that this was the main Trend , esp when that new Grocery Store opened up on the main street, + Playero Expanded ... Vacationers dont really buy Groceries per se, they would be fine with Restaurants and the small Calmados ..
Expats and Snowbirds however DO.
Does not mean that Restaurant wont do WELL , they WILL of course benefit as well . As will local bars and such ..

It will be interesting to see what happens this season. From what I understand from England visitors is that there are no more flights coming into Puerto Plata direct. TUI stopped flying in at the end of October. Only direct flights are to Punta Cana.

There used to be a regular flight from Puerto Rico to POP.

Puerto Ricans would come for a few days or a week and they are a natural fit.
Plus many Americans live and work in PR who used to come when I did. Also tourists would add the North Coast to a Caribbean jaunt, say they might go see PR for a week then a week to DR and back through PR to home.
Now they have to fly to Santiago - I have several friend in PR who would come for a few days but sorry I'm not driving to Santiago to pick them up anymore, so they don't come.
No talk of flight from PR resuming, seems once a route is scratched it seldom returns.
