What has me confused is the old table was a prorroga de ESTADIA while this new one says DEPOSITO DE EXPEDIENTES. Change in terminology to stop considering it an overstay tax or are they 2 different things?

Sorry, but I am not convinced, the wording is not relevant to tourists who come to visit DR. This is clearly in capital:

PRÓRROGA PARA SOLICITUD DE DEPÓSITOS DE EXPEDIENTES CON FINES DE RESIDENCIA Y/O CUALQUIER OTRO ESTATUS MIGRATORIO

Tells me it is for those who submitted some kind of application and overstayed. I maybe wrong but so far not clear.

Also any mention of 60 days is irrelevant, please, that is for "tourist visa" for people from countries that need visa to enter DR, not if you can come in the country as a tourist without needing any kind of visa - let's not mix things....

This is clearly displayed on the government website, so until this page is not changed I think we can assume the same fee schedule.... (last time there was a change, this page changed - of course)

Totally agree with yout.

Pagar el exceso de estadía o permanencia en el país sobrepasados los 60 días permitidos para extranjeros. Recibo de Pago

To pay the excess of stay or permit to stay in the country when overstayed after the 60 days permitted to foreigners. Receip of payment.

Apart from what I believe are poor translations of the govt's wording and intent (maybe just poor wording in the first place), the tourist card is still valid for a period of 30 days. A tourist can get an extension and then not have to pay the exit fee or they can just pay the exit fee as they have done in the past. Without an extension, the extra 30 days is enjoyed with a non-enforced status of illegal alien; The only caveat being the $5000 pesos when you leave.

Regularly stay beyond a total of 60 days at a time and all bets for reentry to the country could be off even if you do pay a higher fee amount when departing.

As always, we will have to let some time elapse to see how all this actually shakes out.

Read post #239 again. When you are finished read it a few more times........................

I don't know if that was a response to my post, but I'm not the one that needs convincing - it's the Canadians I was referring to. I doubt any of them have seen your post #239 or that it would give them any assurance even if they did. They are going to believe an official letter from MIP/DGM before a post on DR1 interpreting the overstay fees.

They are two different things. This new list which has appeared is the List of Fees for Residency Applications Deposited beyond 30 Days After Entering the Dominican Republic with a Visa. It is not overstay fees. When you apply for residency you have 30 days to deposit your papers at Migracion - over that time, these are the fines you pay.

Now I'm totally confused. So the old overstay fees still apply for normal overstayers such as snowbirds?

The list with the more expensive fees does include wording about it including "all circumstances", but then again, this is the DR and who really know.

It sure is vague when it translates to EXTENSION FOR APPLICATION OF DEPOSITS OF RECORDS FOR RESIDENCE PURPOSES AND / OR ANY OTHER IMMIGRATION STATUS.

The "And/Or Any other immigration status" to me would mean anyone who came into the DR under any circumstance.

So they let you stay for 10 years and simply pay a fee but they are trying to deport people that stay over 60 days. I have a bridge to sell in Brooklyn for anyone that believes that nonsense.

Nobody can make anyone believe anything.

I see changes being made, people should be aware of them, and make their own choices based upon how they feel.
