try close to 100%. There are no factories or manufacturing in Sosua proper, no mining. Agriculture and farming are outside of Sosua proper. They're probably some telecommuters but very few
p.s retirees are tourists

As it relates to Sosua it's the same as tourist dollars. It's money bought in from the States or where ever. It's not industry dollars.

But affordable for us pensionados on Social Security I am looking for someplace within US territory such as Puerto Rico that is affordable. Any suggestions?

One could argue that same with regards to remittances, which are not industry dollars either. Yes, anyone who is retired from anywhere such as an expat that spends money where they live is not part of industry, but in another category for the cash injected into the economy. Over time the number of expats has been increasing on the north coast, while the number of what the DR government would classify as tourists has declined dramatically on the north coast of the DR.

I am not aware of such a place. I am certainly not interested in living in Puerto Rico.

Exactly, if you source of INCOME is a PENSION check, or USA or other Country Bank account ..
you are a Guest or a Tourist ..
But Windguy Does play " Musical gigs" .... but I highly doubt that is his only source of income .. but maybe that is why he considers himself NOT a tourist ?
But mathematically one would have to agree if you are bringing money into town, and not making $ in that town .. you are not part of any industry . you are a merely spender or a tourist .

I am not a tourist because I am a legal resident. I live here full time and have no other legal residence anywhere else in the world. Where my money comes from is not part of the definition of what a tourist is.
Here is the definition of a tourist:

A person who arrives as a tourist in the DR and stays longer than their 30 day tourist card allows is also not a tourist, but rather an illegal alien.
How many tourists do you know that have driver's and firearms licenses issued in the countries that they are in?
Permanent residents are also not guests.
I find it hard to believe that someone would dispute this.

...Yes...check the Island territories in the south pacific..the USA acquired many after WW2..I also have a few friends in the Philippine Islands, used to be a territory...big country all islands, they tell me it is very poor and cheaper than here..but they have a lot of fun..check it out, I have been to Manila the big city …….Doc......

Got a cousin in Philippines right now. But my medicare that I paid into for half a century won't cover there any more than it does here.
