Eventually....meanwhile people are moving away, have moved away. I know people from Gaspar Hernandez and almost to Costambar that commute to Sosua to work. By the time all their costs are considered they make very little...yet more than if they lived there. They feel they have no option.

Even worse are those who already have lost their jobs and all those who will...while we wait for all the rich to move to Sosua and provide all the fabulous high paying jobs...

I won't be holding my breath ;)

Brilliant try at attempting to gather sympathy, but unfortunately it is misdirected. It is Dominicans who WANT, NEED, and DESIRE the change. It is a certain segment of international society resisting......as this thread line shows clearly.

If powerful enough people, politicos, REALLY wanted to make drastic change a reality they could affect it in a very short timeframe. I've seen businesses closed and homes and businesses bulldozed.

Armando for example has been deported or been denied entry before and he has at least tens of millions of USD invested in the DR...if he's vulnerable then everyone else is an easy target. Bobby that still owns Rumba was arrested IIRC and has not been in the DR for years...Peter spent like a month in jail and Passions is now condos...

There's no way that they couldn't force the businesses to close...and relocate if they can/choose...

Well, except for the LAW and publicity but that has not stopped them so far.

You tell that to the people I know who have jobs and had to move due to very low wages and rising housing costs.

This is being driven by money and lined pockets...nothing more, nothing less.

But wait, I thought the whore mongers and the vast sums they spend were necessary to save Sosua. Now you tell us that there is more money if the town gets cleaned up? Which is it?

How many thousands of people are we talking about that were employed on the west end of Pedro Clisante in Sosua and lost their jobs or had to move from there to distant locations?

Just watched that video posted by "Mr. T"
about the problems they are having with
the way the police act.

If the local PN or politicos get wind
of this video (heaven forbid it goes viral)
they'll promptly remind this fella he is guest.

Sometimes its better to make your moves in
silence.

My problem with the "Mr. T" video is he approaches it from the viewpoint that the problem is the police. Far be it for me to defend DR police (too much personal experience for that) but they are merely carrying out orders from above and I don't mean the mayor. It is clear this is coming from Santo Domingo.

He certainly puts some local stuff out there for anyone to watch.

I completely agree with his stance.
However, requesting video from tourist
which shows the PN abusing their authority
(making them look bad) is probably
going to back fire on this fella..

Absolutely and how someone does not see it?
Along with the cash toss in a dash of moral superiority and it is precisely what is going on in my view.

Sosua needs saving?
From what?
A new look for you, evangelical?

You missed my point. Those who are whore mongers have always made the claim that without their money Sosua and all its people would vanish, so they were the saviours of Sosua. Just like a discussion you had above, in fact about all the money now to be lost with the closing of bar only locations on a small part of one street. And the actions to reduce the image of prostitution, yet again being done.

I never claimed Sosua needed saving nor that it could be saved if needed.

(As for religion, I have never believed in any religion.)

people that are so bothered by mongers and the working chicas should not enter Sosua proper. They have both been here for decades, longer than most x-pats here, and are not leaving. If they close every single bar on Pedro C the chicas will still be here as will the mongers. They work/walk the beach during the day and the bars and restaurants at night.

Yes, mongers have been here longer than my 16 years of living on the north coast. However, the mongers were far more laid back in previous times and did not post of their exploits on social media. The mongers were not invisible, but not out to get attention. That is what is causing the DR's publicity problem. At the moment, the government will do some things. For now it is closing some bars on a small part of one street. By the way, the people that are bothered by this are Dominicans. It is their country.

Meanwhile a 75-year old man asks his wife:
"Will you get mad at me if you see me chasing
after the young chicas on Pedro Clisante some night?"

"Why no, the wife responds, I see dogs chasing after cars all the time that they can not possibly drive"

You are right...social media did not exist...but it really was not much different back 18 years ago. In my opinion it was much more prevalent. The only thing that has really changed as far as the men girls go, is the demographics. Yes, social media is a problem.
Some Dominicans are bothered, not all.

Social media makes all the difference in the world at this time. Trump is POTUS, for example.

The only thing that matters, is if those in power are bothered. Once I learned that in life, my life became much easier because I knew where I could and could not go.

Currently , those in power, the Attorney General and her minion in Sosua are bothered. After the next election, things could change

Save Sosua? It was doing just fine before the government started looking for their slice. The money does not go to the people no matter how much gets invested.
