Wow...... You just proved something so ILLOGICAL its mind Numbing..
Although I am not defending it .. I can give you a PERFECT Analogy ..

How valuable is a FISH.. a couple of fish ? not much right ?

So take a fishing Village ... I am talking "recreational" Fishing , not commercial fishing which just sells by the #, although those have vibrant economies as well.. ..

Now snatch away the fish people are traveling to those Villages to Sail out of to catch ... lets say an Eco disaster or over fishing..
Guess what the Outcome will be for that Village ?
Restaurants & especially Breakfast Diners which line the streets , Hotels , Convenience stores , the Boat owners ,gas Stations , stores which sell bait etc . ALLL of those People and their Employees
now get to Suffer or go out of business, and take a lot of jobs with them.
Just because of some FISH ? . Crazy stuff , Right ??
UNLESS That " Fishing Village" now Transforms itself , into something else
It will suffer ... Crime will sky rocket .

Anyone who cant understand this analogy, I almost feel sorry for you.

Although I do not have a Horse in this Race .. I am shocked that some of you cant grasp this , and you LIVE there ???
holy smokes .... YOU are the ones the CRIMINAL Element will PREY on if the money stops rolling in , for whatever reason..
you, the Expats , will be the targets for break ins, and knife point Holdups ( like those have not been already recently discussed ??)
Enjoy your new " Puta Free" Sosua... the rest of us will be staying CLEAR of it , for sure .
There is a point of no return, and we are almost there .

There are probably more hookers in Sosua than there are fishermen on the North coast.

I'm curious, JD, why do you think the Powers That Be in Sosua, for as long as I can remember, do all they can to eliminate the image of Sosua, The Sex Tourist Paradise?

Why has the AG and MiTur constantly backed the local Powers in changing the perception of Sosua?

If local voters object to the heavy-handed tactics, why do "anti-prostitution" politicians continue to get elected?

I just don’t see why it’s so hard for people to mind their own business . Do the girls commit any crimes? Are the mongers hurting anyone feelings? I never been but coming in March , some of you would rather for the area to be a prison state

Its all good buddy. Come down, drink up and bang as many hookers as money can buy.
Just be sure not to post your exploits on youtube or social media. The DR authorities are
trying to get rid of the image it projects to the rest of the world :cheeky:

I think You just answered your own question... Why Indeed .. what is stopping them from cleaning it up ?
its called tourism $$, from jet blue Taxes at POP , to the over priced $25 USD 15 minute Taxi ride to El Batey all the way down to the dirtiest street rat who gets only 500 pesos and then spends it immediately at the local calmado .
the Village of Sosua is quite possibly the most perfect Text Book example of " Trickle down Economics"

There are probably more hookers in Sosua than there are fishermen on the North coast.

How many hookers are visitors? 50%? Same with Motos. 50%? I'm guessing, anybody have a better guess? So many of them commute from Montellano, Santiago and the countryside.

I just can't picture a big crime wave if hookers are pushed out. An uptick, maybe. But if the dominicans are successful, it will be a slow process. Chicas and motos will just slowly filter elsewhere for business.

Seems they HAVE been trying to "clean it up."

Results are another story altogether...

Bottom feeders will eat anything.

Maybe if Sosua had a higher class of hookers, they'd get a higher class of johns.

...Not all the hookers are on the sidewalk....some of the "higher class ones" have regular jobs during the day ..and work part time at night...the pretty young bartender...the waitress at the disco... the maid at your hotel that is always smiling....

The powers that be in the DR don't care in the least if there were zero whore monger tourists. That would be a victory regardless of the side effects. They would be overjoyed at the results from Boca Chica you describe.

I think exactly that, the power that be = elite = evangelist = old fashioned = live in denial = live in big houses in SD or Santiago = minority = etc. etc. were overjoyed.

But I hazard a guess that the ordinary hard working folks who lived and worked in Boca Chica and the surrounding area were devastated and left with a lot less than they had before (I visited BC some years after - couldn't even find a descent place to eat something to survive my few days visit) - but hey, the reputation was preserved, who cares, right ? (not !)

Sosua is plugging along just because they have not cracked down like BC so far, and I am sure they will not, changes may come or not, but at a slow pace, no one wants to kill the goose that lays the golden egg...

Unfortunately it's not just a few hookers and mongers that they remove, once the place go downhill it will go fast and you lose a lot more visitors and snowbirds and expats in the process. And then 50k need to feed from the only industry for miles around - Sosua cheese factory ! lol

Sure, out of sight out of mind. It doesn't directly effect them. But they probably wouldn't move their family there.

Or if you stuck a Pedro Clisante with all it's trimmings in a middle class Santiago neighborhood, then they would mind.

I don't disagree with you but that wasn't the point that was made nor in which I was addressing.

the chicas dry up (no pun intended) the town dies.
you think the real estate prices are down now, wait until the desperation sets in from the struggling local workers unable to find service work

I can tell you the ones found in Sosua occupy the bottom rung of the ladder. Any girl with even the slightest bit of intelligence moved online many moons ago.

The free internet classifieds are overflowing with slightly better girls. including the ones from Venezuela and Colombia, while the upper echelon are with online agencies.

All very true, but it seems some of these "single travelers" are not sophisticated enough to work it , or handle their business that way... even with all the technology at their disposal... this new generation more than ever prefers the point and Click , rather than "networking" their hobby on facebook and whatever other dating site...
the Reason for all of this Chaos , its just that simple ... imho
They want to touch down at the airport, pay top $ for a short taxi ride , check into their hotel, and then an hour later walk the strip , or sit at their favorite restaurant smoking a cigar, wearing their colorful Sports gear , and feed these girls Camarones ... this is the only game they seem to have , Friday night and its " everybody go to the DISCO" aka da club, (whatever your vernacular may be ) ..
This MO is not going to change on their end , unless the authorities decide to change it .. which it seems they may , very soon.
