Okay, let's be logical, if prostitution is legal in the country (and actually prevalent in all parts and a popular pass time of Dominican men and an accepted fact of life for women...!), then the issue is just the image, reputation and in your face situation.

So why not try to address those especially, find a proper way to tackle it, it can't be impossible. Make bars and discos enclosed with A/C, no chicas in the street and no soliciting and loitering by johns out in the open (even drinking on the street - that's terrible how some of these cheap charlies buy a beer from colmados and walk up and down the street, worse than chicas for image if you ask me)... !

Bring back Passion and CMP type establishments, out of sight out of mind, even little noise, so could be anywhere.

Way too logical for the public administers in Sosua.

Perhaps, benefiting from the avails of prostitution doesn't necessarily have to involve monetary enrichment. Maybe any type third party enrichment could be construed as being against the statutes. While I think such a case would be a stretch, I do get the impression that the politicos are trying to deal with a situation without appearing to be supporting or facilitating it in any way. A decree allowing for brothels, or published requirements for establishments that wish to embrace the meeting of providers and customers could be seen as tacit political involvement.

I don't think the new red light area will succeed. I could be wrong, but we'll see. The real pushback from Playa Chiquita residents hasn't really geared up yet.
It's not as far down as Playa Chiquita. It's in an area with not many voter possibilities and many folks who can't protest.
But it's growing fast.
The walled city rises like mushrooms daily.I still can't see how it's supposed to be when it's done.I guess somebody saw the idea in another place and decided to copy.Bizarre construction techniques, more like one of those fast erected superstores, steel and tin with a bit of cinder block, not the usual Dominican re-bar and concrete.

...Not all the hookers are on the sidewalk....some of the "higher class ones" have regular jobs during the day ..and work part time at night...the pretty young bartender...the waitress at the disco... the maid at your hotel that is always smiling....
And those you describe are more selective, dress nicer and most are not substance abusers. They also might first establish a friendship relationship with those they go with. It seems more respectful somehow than clogging the streets like packs of squealing hyenas in ill-fitting spandex circling easy prey waiting to be slaughtered for a quick meal, then right back out on the Pedro Clisante Serengeti looking for more fresh blood.

The future of Sosua would be nice if it were the old Sosua, where the hookers exhibited a modicum of decorum, because most of the johns did too.
It has become a monotone din of internet braggards dragging about classless yapping wig-hats.

Sosua has become the twerking a*s on the Dominican Republic.

There may be a simple legislative solution if the government was willing to pursue it. Enact a law making it illegal for johns to solicit prostitutes in public and in private and actually enforce it. It worked in a few Canadian cities and it takes the legal onus off the prostitutes. Given the sexual dynamic in the DR, machismo society, mistresses a normal part of DR married life, cabanas by the thousands, etc., I’m guessing there is no way in Hades the government would enact that kind of legislation. The male dominated corrupt government in the Santo Domingo legislature would die a quick political death if they did.

I think it's just inside Playa Chiquita neighborhood boundaries by some maps. But anywho, it's those folks in that general area that will be unhappy if it starts growing and they have to drive thru it.

It sounds like pre engineered steel construction. Used a lot in NA. I'll have to drive down and take a look.

If the intent of this move by City Hall is honourable and if the politicos allow for fair trade free from capricious hurdles, the new "red light" district should, after a year of "wait & see", kick of like a gangbuster. Properties adjacent, might even see a brief window of speculative interest as investors and business folks alike jockey for a location to grab some of the action.

If he authorities can't stay out of the kitchen, then the area would probably just become an annoyance for residents with little opportunity to escape with their shirts.

For those that say locals are not driving force to end mongering..
Sosua.- the increase of prostitution and the lack of controls by the competent authorities concern various sectors of the municipality of the province of Puerto Plata.

Concern is born of some mothers, those who complain bitterly about the large amount of sex workers on beaches and streets of the urban town of this municipality. Children who come to schools have to see daily to dozens of women and men exercising their work of offering their bodies to foreigners and Dominicans in full daylight.

The Mayor of sosua, Ilana Neumann, recognizes the malaise that generates prostitution and values the idea that the community is identified with the real problem. He said that right now, they work a plan that will help to reduce it gradually in a not so long period. " somehow we've had the support of the office, but it hasn't been easy in time. We're closer now ", aim Neumann.

The family

Mothers who show their concern, understand that this affects the good development of the healthy natural coexistence of the families. "in the batey sosua there are two educational centers, the Luis Hess school and the public school and this is the example we give to our children, to be pimps and leather", said Altagracia Dominguez mother of three primary students.

Luisa Martínez makes a call not to deliver to corruption the values of the people. "we will not abandon our schools and schools, that they move, that we are here first", add Martinez. A large part of the inhabitants of the municipality of sosua consider that all these evils work with the complicity of some authorities and the private sector that benefit directly.

Before the advance of "the activity of selling sexual tourism", including hotels and police, sectors ask to stop this kind of performance. This is why they call the attorney general of the Republic, prosecutor's office, ministry of health, environment, Tourism, and other competent authorities to seek a way out to control sexual tourism

nope again, countless daytime action. Yesterday on the beach "Sosua" had ZERO families. The main beach attire for men and woman was tattoos on the neck and chest. 30 dollar a night hotels are what is known as a "sign""

Where are the real estate speculators?

An opportunity to buy cheap condos to resell for a profit to the families waiting to rush into town for the fine dining the moment the girls are out of sight.
I need to tack up my house for sale sign immediately.
It will be a real estate boom.

Weren't you looking for $300K? That's a 7 or 8 unit condo building which could bring $2,000 to $3,000 monthly income and a place for someone to live.
Your place would be for a relocating couple or family, neither of which are worried about hookers being forced out
