I think you wil find he's a solid well respected real estate lawyer. Haven't heard anything bad about him, he is well known in Sosua.

I have known Guido for about 18 years and just recently used him in a real estate purchase as well as a landlord tenant event. I highly recommend him for his integrity and responsible-ness.

Guido works well by email

I am in the middle of a deal using Guido to buy a condo and his responsiveness to emails has been remarkable, including a quick response on a Sunday! He has shown attentiveness to this transaction even though its not a big deal for him. I recommend him.

Good real estate, bad residency

I hate to be the bad egg, although Guido did do an excellent job with my real estate transaction, he totally dropped the ball on my residency application.

I gave the man a month's notice that my container was to arrive in Santo Domingo. He waited until the last minute to produce the proper paper work for customs. I had to actually go to his office, interupt a meeting and get quite angry for him to actually get off his ash and do what needed to be done.

By the way I paid $1500.00USD for this service and because of his incompetence I'm paying another $200.00 in storage fees.

I would say, if you're using Century 21 for your real estate transactions you're in good hands, but if he offers to handle your residency politely say no and find someone else.

Unquestionably the best civil lawyer in Sosua.
The negative comments you will hear, geberally stem from the fact that he's just to darn popular and busy, and this could cause delays.
He speaks perfect English and is an alround nice guy.

Like Rocky said, the complaints I have heard about him have been from people who bought real estate through Century 21 and waited a very long time to get their title. The explanation that I got when I asked about it was that he was working alone and had more work than he could handle. Whether he has help now, I don't know.

Licenciado Guido

He treated us right, and being a stake holder in the
community I doubt he can afford to taint his reputation.
It's a small world here.

Guido is to busy working in Real Estate. Heck, a few years ago, he used to refer his residence apllicants to me. BTW I don't do it any more. Several lawyers offer this service. As for Aduana, if you speak Spanish, just go down to the port and there are specialists (Lawyers) there who will take care of things for a reasonable fee. (Speak Spanish and NEGOTIATE)

Look, I agree that Guido is nice guy that speaks English. That was not the OP's original question. The OP wanted honest opinions as to our experience' with Guido and I've given my honest opinion.

Guido does a great job when he's presented with real estate closing' from his family' company.

I just spent 6 hours in the office of Aduanes yesterday getting my Cargo container released. There were several mistakes that were made by Guido ('typos') on my documentation that caused additional problems.

If Guido is too busy to do his job properly then he needs to refer clients to another attorney or decline the business. It seems to me that the posters are more impressed with Guido' laungage skills than his legal skills.

Nobody has jumped on you for expressing your opinion, in fact, a lot of us agree that Guido is overworked and there can be delays at times.
I still wouldn't go to anyone else.
He's the only one I trust.
Nobody refuted what you said, nor should you refute what others have to say.
The OP asked for opinions, and that's what he got.

If Guido is too busy to do his job properly then he needs to refer clients to another attorney or decline the business.
You may be correct.
But how will he find an honest lawyer to help him?
None of us have managed to.
It seems to me that the posters are more impressed with Guido' laungage skills than his legal skills.
His language skills are of significant importance.
How can you get your lawyer to properly represent you, if there is a language barrier.
I now speak Spanish, but when I first met Guido in "91, I was really happy that he spoke English and understood what I needed and was able to give me counsel.
Yes, his language skills are important.

I agree with all the nice things said about Guido, and also agree that he appears to be swamped with work. For that reason, I have been using the Guzman Ariza firm. They have a large staff of lawyers who speak excellent English as well. Julio Brea (in that office) is as good as they get, in my opinion. - D

Over the years I have heard he is good on company real estate but if you want an assertive lawyer particularly on criminal matters, you look elsewhere. Finding out the particular skills of any given lawyer is one of the responsibilities of the client, since lawyers will not excel at every aspect of legal matters. You just have to do your homework. However, not all lawyers operate to the highest levels of integrity so if you get a recommendation for honesty that is the first requirement you are seeking. This opinion comes not from first hand experience of employing this particular lawyer, since I don't use lawyers who specialise in foreigners, but from listening to 9 or 10 people who did employ his services. And Rocky I respectfully disagree with But how will he find an honest lawyer to help him? None of us have managed to. Some of us have, speaking from personal experience, but I would agree it takes years of relationship building etc. One criterion I used to use was who was thrown out of public office because they weren't 'malleable' enough..........! We had a Fiscal in PP once who lasted only 6 weeks in the job because he was too straight! Doesn't speak a word of English though so probably no good for a lot of new foreigners.

le tme jump in we used guido for our closing, it went well. the title took a long time but i don't really blame him. i think the system just wirks slowly in the d.r. very slowly. i always felt safe and not compromised. he answered very quickly any questions i had even if one sentence to let me know he was on the case.
before we hired him not knowing anything about him. i had someone who knew the fromer president of scotia bank d.r. inquire about him. if this man said he was ok. that was enough for me. don't use him. i have other things for him to do and you will just slow me down. just kidding. not all lawyers are good for all things. spread it out . i use that approach in the states.

anybody familiar with this company www.dominican-realty.com
You might do better to start a new thread, as this one was lawyer related.

I don't know this real estate company, but I see they use a cellphone as their phone number, which insinuates to me, that they are not well established. It's just a guess, of course, but one would think that a serious operation would have a land line.

As for condo complexes in Sosua that are recognized as being worth investing in, in no particular order, El Neptuno, Blue Bayou, Trade Winds, The Palms.
