Nothing is going to change. All of you know that. You neglected to add: and he was a great baseball player who loved his mom and went to church on Sunday.

If hes that much of an idiot who gives a f@@k!

I guess many folks who have not been to Europe don't understand speed too well.
With the right car, a half-way decent driver on the right road in good conditions is far safer at 250KPH than a tatty, drunk-driven pick-up at 40KPH.-(And that autopista is a great road!)
Stupidity is the killer.

I regularly drove my Merc legally on the autobahns at over 220 Klicks and was regularly overtaken by fast beemers and porkers. It's just normal. The most dangerous were the East Bloc truckers ( who can only do 80 Kph) who just pull out anywhere so if you saw a strange plate on a truck watch out.
Drunk driving is highly publicised and campaigned against, also very harshly punished of course, so the majority of drivers don't do it.

Political blahblah is just that. The only change in the DR will be an increase in the personal wealth of some officers should this be enforced.
You cannot make working laws that address public responsibility in a country where the concept is alien.

autobahns in germany are in great condition, that's one. two, germans respect the damn law and have decent driving culture so that no one stays going 40 km/hr in the fast lane. what you can do in europe cannot be done here because this land is not populated by people with education and common sense.

I just watched a video of a guy doing 186 mph in a Porsche 911. La Romana to Punta Cana in 22 mins! He managed 205 mph the week before in a Ferrari 458.
I hope that video has the same effect as the case of the idiot girl who posted pics of her baby drinking beer and that he ends up behind bars and his stupid cars confiscated to boot. That would be a genuine case of "protective custody" for all concerned.

Let me take a shot at this.....You live in the USA...Because it sounds like an American Law to me...

In Canada a first offence for driving impaired punishment is licence loss for one year and fine of $1300 to $2000 dollars, second offence is jail time and each subsequent offense is more jail time. Car insurance rates will jump from $600 a year to $4000 a year for a first offense. I was a breath testing technician for many years of my service.

But if he owns a 911 and Ferrari 458, he'll never spend a day behind bars. Even if his high rate of speed causes a fatality.

Did not some country give the DR a 1000 or so breath analyzers a few years back, seem to remember that.

I think this was before portables were available and with the power outages in the country the machines became impossible to calibrate.

That new autopista is the best road I've seen outside Germany. I have no trouble driving here compared to many other places I've been. You can see for miles ahead as well.No fog, no black ice, very little traffic, smooth surface. Nice.

If I had the right car I'd certainly give it a blast along there.

I would rather be a passenger in a car doing 200 mph with a decent driver, than how I feel with some people I know when they are only doing 60 mph. No other cars around, only yourself to kill, why not :)

I used to drive trucks in Germany sometimes and consider the autobahns to be very dangerous. A trucker looks in his mirror prior to pulling out to pass something slower - nothing to be seen - then when he starts to pull out, from nowhere comes some would be Sebastian Vettel in a Merc doing 220 clicks. If the trucker is not super-vigilant, carnage ensues. The problem is the difference in vehicles' speeds, which is even greater here.

Imagine what it would be like here, where half the trucks hardly have operational mirrors!

So you were one of them then.....

Regular users of fast roads in Europe know how to do it. The statistics show that. It's the dawdlers, irresponsibles and visitors that are the danger. Many of the un-limited stretches are 3 or 4 lanes wide and trucks are not permitted in the fast lane so should be no conflict.

Meanwhile, back in the DR............

Like I said, Right car, right driver, right place ,right time....

There never should have been drinking while driving previously, if such was the case. Hopefully, this will lead to a reduction in fatalities.

It will be hard to change people mentality, during Carnaval or other events the alcoholics beberages Co sets tents right in the middle of the majors strees of the cities in oder to sell their products to the motorists...

Only in the DR!
