My friend who is a rep at Holiday Village resort tells me that they may be closing down in November for some plumbing work for a few weeks. So far this is a rumour, but I thought I'd let everyone know.

I read this somewhere else too so your friend could well be right. Also was talking to one of the reps in the kids club said he was coming home at the end of the season for a while then going back next year.

Excursions will cost you more when you buy them from the reps.

Try looking here Isaira Tours - Dominican Republic Martin is very well known and respected, he is the owner.

WEddings - are not on the beach, they are near the beach. Try searching for the wedding thread and there may be some photos there.

Like you can talk with a voice of authority - your command of the English language is rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We all make the odd mistakes but ours are not deliberate deformation of the written word........

There is a designated wedding area it is in ther grounds not on the beach but I seem to think you can see the beach from the location.I saw a few wedding photographers heading to the beach after with wedding parties so I am sure you will get some lovely photos.

I got back a few days ago. Not sure I can add anything new to what has already been posted before but here goes...

Great place to relax for a few days, outstanding for kids and food in the restaurants was surprisingly good. Friendly and helpful staff, clean and quiet beach.

Stayed in a Family Room and IMO was not 4* but exceptionally clean and everything worked perfectly well (nice powerful shower!). The Royal Suites accommodation looked a little more luxurious.

The people providing the evening entertainment were full of energy and enthusiasm, with one or two exceptions, but the entertainment itself was a little ordinary (Bingo!!!). So called a la carte restaurants were excellent, particularly the Lotus Oriental, and a good way of breaking up the daily visits to the buffet (the buffet was good but inevitably became repetitive).

Watch out for those mozzies! My legs got chewed to stumps despite using patches (don't waste your money on them) and spray. Along with the warm weather and humidity, you just get used to it. No sickness or such like in evidence while I was there.

All in all I think HVGB provides pretty much everything you could want in a relaxing beach-oriented holiday. Saw one wedding while there, everybody seemed to be having a blast and the photos we saw looked amazing.

Adios...

closing 6th Nov

Just heard from reception, one of the staff that I know very well, its closing 6th nov for repairs, bear in mind though that the last time they closed last year, the last couple of weeks there was hardly anyone there. It was very very quiet. you may like that or you may not...

Hi All,
Arrived home on 3rd Sept, booked the holiday this time last year and rode the storm regarding all the negative posts and cancelled bookings etc.. Thankfully everything turned out OK and anyone who is due to go I would say don,t worry about the noisy minority.I thought the place was beautiful, fantastic location stunning gardens ,lovely people great food I could go on.The room was fine for our family (2 adults 2 kids) twin queens nice bathroom, fridge, plenty of storage space awesome shower. No problem with the food tried anything other than chips and nuggets and no stomach upsets whatsoever.Went to the gym and used the rower and treadmill and had a few early morning runs around and about the complex with no problems. We used the wave pool mainly as the kids loved it,some days you had to be out fairly early to reserve your sunbeds (No Germans to be seen).I don't normally reserve sunbeds but in the brochure it states "Do not reserve sunbeds if you have no intention of using them"so most people put towels out before breakfast and returned later.
We used the beach a fair bit and really enjoyed it,the sea is lovely and warm and both my girls aged 11 and 13 had no problem swimming,it can get a bit choppy at times but its not the med and I've been in worse at Cornwall.
We went on 2 trips The outback safari and Ocean world were we did The Sea lion encounter,I can recommend both of these trips and they were great value for money.
The In2Action kids club is brilliant and the staff really work hard and my Girls loved everything they got involved with.
We had some friends staying at The Gran Ventana hotel which is 10 mins walk away and went to visit them one day,it was a nightmare. As soon as you got near the gate you were stopped, then you were escorted to reception but then told we would have to pay $160 to go and find our friends and to spend a day with them. They came back to our hotel and paid $25 to use all the facilities and have meals and had no problem getting in.
The only downside to the Holiday was basically ...dare I say this..The British I know I'm also included in this but to The Canadians who I found lovely people we must look a joke.I have never seen so many football shirts and tattoos in my life and that's just the women.I understand that it probably sounds a little snobbish but surely we can do better than this,we also seem obsessed with bingo and pop quizzes .At night the place turned into Blackpool. There were also gangs of kids roaming about through the night some up to no good whilst the parents were enjoying the bingo. To top it of one day whilst sitting around the wave pool a bus went past full of people waving on there way home, myself and youngest daughter returned the favour then one youf decided to stick two fingers up at us.This just about summed up our once Great country.

hey all!
i just got back from Holiday Village and had a lovely time.
I went with a friend for a week. All i can say is that it is above all else a family resort. great for kids. we were fortunate enought to be able to upgrade to the adult only section (a private pool and beach area) that was the best part.
the food was good minus the poor selection at the buffet and the mexican resto made my friend sick.
the rooms were clean and the staff were great.

enjoy your stay!!
