When your life is whore mongering that’s all you see..there is way more bars and restaurants that won’t let street girl inside with out a gringo in tow ..for a guy who knows Sosua you must forgot when Bourbon had security shoeing them away , by then it was to late perception is everything in DR...No ones against your fun it’s just changing..I see it as a best of both worlds... they are getting strict all over not just here...

If that makes you feel better, cool. I'm so sure real estate is going to triple when it's all cleaned up as well

When your life is spent living in hooker central and you have great disdain for chicas that are not doing anything illegal and have been here for decades your mental health is affected.

Who here is " trying to stop the process " .

The process I refer to is forcing the bar only locations to close or to move. Nothing more to be read into that.

Holy smokes your virtue signaling , just over the top .

I have no idea what virtue signalling is. I am a Libertarian and could care less with what women do with their own bodies. I am talking only about what the government here is doing.

WE ( not sure who you are including in that group) are merely trying to figure out what THIS Mystery PROCESS IS.... and HOW it complies with the LAWS of the Land ..

Laws are not absolute here, I have learned that over 16 years of being here.

or are we just admitting its a LAWLESS Country ?? If so, then yes, there is no further need to even discuss the matter in an intelligent fashion..

As was asked before , and never answered, who is next ? Hotels perhaps, which allow these " monger " activities ?
etc etc

If a hotel promoted prostitution, they would indeed be closed if that was discovered.

Not sure if you are trying to be Sarcastic, or just proved my point .
Bobby was a PILLAR of Sosua Community , who freely donated a LOT of $ to Charities and Childrens Causes .. he was a " Partner" in Rumba Sports bar, a DOMINICAN actually Owned it on Paper ... yet he was literally run out of town by Iliana Neuman and the Powers that be ..
And people wonder why Iliana gets called names and is made fun of .. ?

I have NO idea who Bob is. No sarcasm there. Never heard of him. Never went into Rumba Sports Bar. I live in Cabarete, not Sosua. If he was run out of town it might have been because he was part of a business that did something the government did not like, or something else completely different.

You speak of DR 15 years ago. The 2 strokes have all but vanished on the streets. Replaced by less smelly and quieter 4 strokes. And better for Dominicans who might forget to mix oil with gasoline for 2 sttokes.

There's always one...

OK.Stinking raucous 4 strokes then...

The legality of the activities taking place is not in question,
its the image they are most concerned about. The idea of
finally implementing real change appears to be gaining steam.
They held another meeting yesterday about this same topic.

most if not all restaurants in Sosua cater to gentleman seeking ladies. The waitresses are almost all available. Cabarete also caters to single gentleman travelers . Many of my colleagues never make it to Sosua after dinner as they "befriend" the waitresses. The hotels in Cab are chica friendly and request a cedula just like Sosua

You, sir, are obviously eating in the wrong places and hanging with the wrong people. You might have said you were referring to most if not all OF THE RESTAURANTS THAT YOU FREQUENT. We eat out 4 or times a week. And frequent probably 10 or more restaurants in Sosua and a few in Cab. We know most, if not all of the wait staff ( not just waitresses ), as well as owners. Your BS is an absolute insult to these hard-working, decent, family-oriented folks.

Sosúa demands changes necessary for its tourist repositioning

SOSÚA, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.- Different sectors of the Municipality of Sosúa met in a community meeting convened jointly by the Municipal City Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Ministry of Tourism and the Public Ministry to publicize recent and future measures aimed at changing the image and repositioning of this family tourist destination.

Andrés Pastoriza, coordinator of the Economic and Social Council of the Municipality of Sosúa (CESMS), spoke of the need to implement changes to attract family tourism that has moved away from this beautiful coastal city in recent years as a result of the negative image projected on the town.

Colonel Ignacio Peña Grullón, deputy general director of the Specialized Tourist Security Corps (CESTUR), announced, in turn, the strategy that has been carried out for the organization of the sector known as El Batey.

Jakaira Cid, North Regional Director of the Ministry of Tourism, spoke on the other hand about the actions that MITUR has recently taken to strengthen “the promising future that awaits Sosúa, once we implement the required changes,” the director noted.

The municipal mayor, Ilana Neumann de Azar, expressed her firm decision and commitment to promoting the necessary actions to achieve the objective of making Sosúa a prominent and attractive family tourist destination. The mayor stressed: “I will not restrain my efforts to return to Sosúa to the brightness that this community deserves.”

She thanked the Ministry of Tourism, the Public Ministry, CESTUR, and the National Police for the support received so far and said she trusted “that these institutions will continue to give us their support to achieve the desired objectives together.”
The meeting mentioned above was held at the Hotel Casa Marina in this city. It was attended by a broad audience and representatives of the leading local economic and social sectors, including members of the Edificio Council, business people, hoteliers, neighborhood councils, churches, education sector, sports groups, communicators, civil and military authorities.
The different topics discussed were widely debated and commented on by those present. It was clear that the vast majority are in favor of the changes already made and all yearn for a better future for this laborious community endowed with beautiful beaches and other natural resources."

Wasn't trying to insult, just speaking facts from years of collecting actual data, probably from the same restaurants you frequent

If they want to really clean up Sosua. They need to address the reason why chicas are going to Sosua to sell their "wares". If you develop a "5 Year Plan" to educate and provide sources of work to these women, I strongly believe that they will choose a different path if giving the choice.

Yeah right. They can make more in a hour at the hotel than going to some retraining plan (like the Uyghurs) - to then go work 8 hours for 500 pesos. So will a hooker take 12,000 pesos a month for full time work or keep hooking for 30,000 pesos a month + probable free dinners and drinks - hmm I think we know

Blue Collar Town in New Jersey

I think I finally see what the Problem is here ...Some of the posters here think there is a difference between the Street Hoes, who are making "their town" LOOK bad , but attracting the dirty Mongers who" prey " on them..
and the girl who looks all innocent, working as a cashier , but it more than happy to go back to the Villa with the Gringo for some extra Pesos ..
Does not surprise me .. we are dealing with people who consider themselves " Romance Travelers".. who just happened to fall in Love with Fausto,, the "Dance Instructor" , and they have deluded themselves into thinking that this was LEGIT Romance , and the Money they are giving him is NOT payment for Sexual Services .
I can see how if you are that far deluded in your thinking , you also Might find a STRONG Urge to distance yourself from the "dirty dirty " open Street business which is defiling their Lovely little Romance and Drinking Hamlet of Sosua .

You see, their Companionship, is in better TASTE. so its just better .
just an observation ... not throwing stones ..

Do what makes you happy.
Sosua will be just FINE,, long after WE are ALL GONE and forgotten ..

I don't think they can eradicate prostitution but they're many Dominicans who rather take the 12,000 pesos a month and keep their dignity. Prostitution is legal in Spain and for a poor euro country (compared to other Euro countries) with high unemployment are not flooding the streets to sell their "wares" at three times the money they can make working as a cashier at El Corte Ingles. The "Five Year Plan" has to include the re-education of the populace and although you probably can't eradicate prostitution it will definitely hinder it. My opinion of course

I remember when I first visited Puerto Rico in 1970, San Juan had hooker bars on every corner. Near Ramey AAFB in the west and Roosey Roads naval station in the east there were also more girly bars than you could shake a stick at. Many smaller towns had their own secret bars with girls for the taking.

All of those places are looong gone. You can find the occasional bar with a girl or two to show you a good time, but the crazy days are gone.

I'm convinced the same thing has been happening to the DR for some time now.

Anybody notice about the U.S. Govt. teaming up with Banco Popular? Anybody surprised?
